Rock season ends with 1-0 loss to West Chester in second round of NCAA playoffs

The Green and White finish the season with a best-ever 17-5-1 overall record

  • WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Rock's 2007 season came to an end Sunday when 19th-ranked West Chester nipped the 13th-ranked Green and White, 1-0, in second-round action of the NCAA Division II playoffs in West Chester.

The loss gave The Rock a 17-5-1 final record, which stands as the best win total in school history.

West Chester (17-2-2), the defending regional champion, will meet the winner of Sunday's second-round game between C.W. Post and Dowling in a third-round game next Friday.

The Rock mustered only four shots on goal in Sunday's game, compared to nine for West Chester.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 58th minute of action when West Chester's Sarah Oswald chipped a shot over the head of Rock goalie Lauren McManus.

McManus and West Chester's Brittany Barnes were both credited with two saves in the game.

    Notes:

Sunday's loss was The Rock's second in as many weeks vs. West Chester. The Golden Rams won a 2-0 decision last Sunday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship game.

SRU won the first meeting between the teams with a 3-1 decision Oct. 20 on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Sunday's game was the final collegiate game for three Rock seniors: Midfielders Meghan McGrath and Jaimi Wilson and defender Kristin Mikolajczyk.
