Rock wins one, drops two at Chatham

SRU waltzed past Wheeling Jesuit 204-2 but lost to Chatham (158-118) and Notre Dame of Ohio (150-128) Saturday in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Lauren Hervatin and Caitlin Henney each claimed first-place finishes Saturday to lead The Rock effort in a four-team meet hosted by Chatham University.

The Rock won one and lost two in the round-robin competition.

SRU waltzed past Wheeling Jesuit 204-2 (no misprint) but dropped 158-118 and 150-128 decisions to Chatham and Notre Dame (Ohio).

It must be pointed out, though, that both Chatham and Notre Dame scored nine points in a diving competition for which SRU did not have a competitor, so the scores are a little misleading.

Hervatin won the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:40 and was third in the 50 freestyle with a 58.9 time.

Henney won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:49.

Rock swimmers claimed five second-place finishes, led by two by Heather Walbright (200 individual medley, 2:25; 200 frestyle, 2:05).

Kate Pietkiewicz was second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:49, Jessica Student was second in the 100 butterfly with a season-best time of 1:03.52 and Beth Choike was second in the 100 backstroke (1:07.2).

Student also placed third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:28.63.

The Rock's next competition will be the Indiana U. of Pa. Invitational, which starts Thursday and runs through Saturday
