LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse standouts
Grace Rotter and
Lily Ventresca swept the weekly awards in the Western Division when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its final women's lacrosse weekly awards Tuesday.
Â
Rotter, a senior attacker from Beverly Hills, Michigan, was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, while Ventresca, a junior goalie from Rochester, New York, picked up her first Defensive Athlete of the Week award of the season.
Â
The duo were honored after they led Slippery Rock to a 2-0 week to cap the first undefeated season in program history after SRU posted road wins at No. 22 Seton Hill and at Lock Haven last week.
Â
Rotter finished the week with 13 points on nine goals and four assists to go along with four caused turnovers, two ground balls and one draw control. She tallied three goals and two assists in a 10-6 win at Seton Hill and followed that up with six goals and two assists in a 19-3 win at Lock Haven. She also surpassed 100 goals at SRU in the game at Lock Haven and reached 50 goals in a single-season for the second year in a row.Â
Â
Ventresca went 2-0 in goal last week and tied her own SRU record for goalie wins in a single-season by improving to 16-0 on the year. She made nine saves and grabbed two ground balls in a 10-6 road win at No. 22 Seton Hill and then made five saves and grabbed two ground balls while allowing just three goals in a 19-3 win at Lock Haven, finishing the week with 14 saves. Ventresca leads all goalies in Division II this year with a 4.88 goals against average while backstopping the top-ranked scoring defense in the nation.Â
Â
Slippery Rock closed out a perfect 17-0 regular season and will open the postseason at home Tuesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. game against Shippensburg in the PSAC quarterfinals.
