Shannon Von Kaenel was named the Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's lacrosse awards Tuesday.

Von Kaenel, a junior from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, was recognized for her efforts after helping SRU to a pair of wins last week by dominating the possession for The Rock.

She pulled down nine draw controls, caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls while also scoring three goals and handing out one assist in a 25-0 win at Edinboro. She then grabbed 10 draw controls and one ground ball in a 15-5 win at IUP.

Von Kaenel closed the week with 19 draw controls, two caused turnovers, four ground balls, three goals and one assist while helping SRU to stay unbeaten and improve to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC West.

Slippery Rock will host a pair of key PSAC West games this week to close out the first round of divisional games when No. 22 Seton Hill visits Wednesday at 4 p.m. and Lock Haven visits Saturday at 6 p.m.
