AWARDS BREAKDOWN
The top eight finishers in each event are named first team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The top eight will also receive awards from the NCAA and stand on the podium at the event. Finishers 9-16 in each event will be named second team All-Americans and finishers 17-18 in each event will be honorable mention All-Americans. This is an expansion for Division II this year after previously only awarding positions 9-12 with second team All-America awards.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
In order to qualify for nationals, student-athletes must meet the NCAA provisional standard in their respective events and must declare to compete at the national meet. The NCAA then selects the top 18 individuals in each open event, the top 14 scores in the multi-events and the top 12 relay marks as official qualifiers for the championships.
ANDERSON TO COMPETE IN HEPTATHLON
The 2024-25 PSAC Indoor Freshman of the Year, Anderson avoided any sort of sophomore slump and will make his indoor national debut as the fifth seed in the heptathlon thanks to his season-best effort of 5,323 points, which propelled him to his first career PSAC title two weeks ago. Anderson was named the PSAC Indoor Championship Field MVP after breaking the SRU and all-time PSAC record in the heptathlon with a winning score of 5,298 points (that tally grew to 5,323 points when converted for track size). This will be the second national appearance for Anderson overall after he qualified for the outdoor national meet last spring, where he finished 13th in the decathlon as a true freshman. He will compete over both days of the meet with the first four events beginning Friday at 10 a.m. and the final three events beginning Saturday at 11 a.m.
HEPTATHLON FIELD BREAKDOWN
The top seed in the event is Walsh sophomore Joel Brown with 5,479 points. He is one of two men that topped the 5,400-point mark this winter with second seed Fran Bonifacic of West Texas A&M being the other at 5,402 points. Anderson is the fifth seed at 5,323 points, making him one of just five athletes in the field with a score above 5,300 points. The top two athletes in PSAC history are in the field as Edinboro's Connor Munson is the No. 6 seed. He set the PSAC record earlier this year at 5,284 points before Anderson topped that record two weeks ago. A total of 16 athletes are set to compete in the heptathlon with the scores ranging from 5,132 points to 5,479 points.
DREW LAYTON COMPETES IN POLE VAULT
Fresh off a second-place finish at the PSAC Championships, Layton will be making his second consecutive appearance at indoor nationals. A three-time All-American overall (2x outdoor / 1x indoor), Layton heads to the national meet seeded 18th with his season-best clearance of 5.10 meters from the Ashland Invitational (Jan. 24). He took sixth place at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships with a school-record clearance of 5.24 meters. One of the top pole vaulters in program history, Layton also owns the SRU and all-time PSAC outdoor pole vault record after he cleared 5.22 meters to place seventh at the outdoor national meet last spring. He has battled an injury for most of the winter and did not compete in February.
POLE VAULT FIELD BREAKDOWN
The pole vault field features 18 men that recorded a height of at least 5.10 meters this year. The top seed in the field is Harding senior Vlad Malykhin for the second year in a row with a clearance of 5.45 meters. Two men have gone 5.40 meters or higher this year and nine men have gone 5.20 meters or higher. Layton's indoor career-best of 5.24 meters would be the No. 6 seed. He will be joined from the PSAC by Kutztown freshman Andrew Szeplaki, who broke Layton's conference record this year and is the No. 6 seed at 5.30 meters.
SEATON WOZNIAK COMPETING IN SHOT PUT
Wozniak qualified for his second NCAA Indoor Championship competition as the seventh seed in the shot put by way of an 18.40-meter mark at the PSAC Championships. In addition to netting him another national championship berth, Wozniak's impressive mark – which came on the very last throw of the competition - resulted in his first PSAC title and broke his own SRU record. Wozniak placed 15th at last year's indoor championships before earning second team All-America honors at last year's outdoor championships after placing 10th last spring.
SHOT PUT FIELD BREAKDOWN
It took a throw of 17.71 meters or better to get into this year's field in the shot put. The top seed is Missouri S&T junior Owen Fraser with a mark of 19.37 meters. He is one of three men that have topped the 19.00-meter mark this year. Wozniak enters as the No. 7 seed in a tight group of 10 men that have a mark between 18.04 meters and 18.80 meters, making up seeds No. 4-13. He will be joined by one other PSAC athlete in Shippensburg junior Gian Greggo, who is the No. 10 seed (18.29m).
RECAPS AND RESULTS
