No. 7 Rock to host Wheeling Wednesday

No. 7 Slippery Rock will look to stay unbeaten when it hosts Wheeling in a non-conference game Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The seventh-ranked Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team will host Wheeling University Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

WINS OVER THREE TOURNEY TEAMS
Slippery Rock opened the year with three straight games against defending conference champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers from 2025. The Rock opened the year with an 18-9 win over GMAC champion Ashland, upset PSAC champion and No. 5 West Chester 13-12 on the road to snap the Golden Rams' 60-game regular season win streak and took down GLIAC champion Grand Valley State 10-6 in their first three games of the year.
 
10 UNBEATENS LEFT
Slippery Rock enters the game Wednesday as one of just 10 Division II teams that are still undefeated on the year. The Rock and East Stroudsburg are the only two teams in the Atlantic Region that have yet to lose a game.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock scored the first nine goals and rolled to a 19-4 win at D'Youville University Saturday. The Rock outshot the Saints 47-10 in a dominant performance. SRU played every single player on the roster and got points from 14 different players. Grace Rotter led the way with four goals and one assist and Reagan Richeson chipped in four goals to go along with five caused turnovers.
 
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK FOR RICHESON
Reagan Richeson was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week this week, a rarity for an attacker. She earned the honor after recording a career-high five caused turnovers, all on the ride, against D'Youville last week. She also scored four goals on four shots and picked up four ground balls in the win.
 
FRESHMEN MAKING A MARK
Slippery Rock has started three true freshmen in every game so far this season and all three have made a noticeable impact. Midfielder Caitlyn Kelly is fifth on the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists for nine points. The defensive midfielder combo of Aleigha Dubroc and Violet Freebody have combined for 14 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls. Dubroc is second on the team with eight caused turnovers and Freebody leads all field players with 10 ground balls.
 
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS
Slippery Rock has four players with at least 10 points through four games, led by All-American attacker Grace Rotter with 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. Reagan Richeson has a team-high 15 goals. Isabella Buono has 10 goals and four assists for 14 points and Maddie Blazey has three goals and a team-high 10 assists for 13 points.
 
BALANCED SCORING
The Rock also have six more players with multiple points on the year. Freshman Caitlyn Kelly has seven goals and two assists and Abby Fink, who scored 50 goals last season, has five goals and two assists. Cadyn Eismann (3g, 2a), Ava Dossier (3g, 1a), Sydney Ulmer (1g, 2a) and Ella Koslowski (1g, 1a) round out the player with multiple points.
 
TOP 10 IN THE CIRCLE

Slippery Rock enters this game ranked 10th in the nation in both draw controls per game (15.75) and draw control win percentage (63.0). Shannon Von Kaenel and her 31 draw controls are the primary reason for that as she currently ranks seventh in the nation in draw controls per game at 7.75. She also takes nearly all the draws and has helped The Rock to post a 63-37 advantage over opponents through four games. Grace Rotter has 17 draw controls and Paige Jenkins has 10 draw controls as that trio has 58 of the team's 63 draws.

Slippery Rock ranks 18th nationally in scoring defense with opponents averaging 7.75 goals per game. The rock rank 15th nationally in caused turnovers per game at 12.50. All-American Paige Jenkins leads the defense with 10 caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Freshman Aleigha Dubroc has eight caused turnovers and nine ground balls and fellow freshman Violet Freebody has six caused turnovers and a team-high 10 ground balls. Attacker Reagan Richeson has five caused turnovers and eight ground balls.  
 
GOALIE PLAY
All-American goalie Lily Ventresca is 3-0 and has started all four games in goal. Ava Drath has played 50 minutes in relief and is 1-0. Ventresca owns an 8.22 goals against average and a .395 save percentage, while Drath is allowing 5.97 goals against average with a .286 save percentage. The pair have a combined 7.75 goals against average and .380 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Wheeling enters the game on a two-game winning streak with wins over Chestnut Hill (16-8) and Lake Erie (25-2) in its last two outings. The Cardinals opened the year with a trio of losses to PSAC teams Gannon (15-11), Shippensburg (20-4) and Shepherd (21-6).
 
Opponents are outscoring Wheeling 67-62 and outshooting the Cardinals 141-134 through five games. Four players have tallied at least 15 points and average 3.0 or more points per game. Jovie Noack leads the way with 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points. Trinity Rose has 13 goals and five assists for 18 points, tying with Klara Domachowska for second in total points with eight goals and 10 assists. Sophia Cirone rounds out the top scorers with nine goals and six assists.
 
Brooke Jeffery leads the team with 21 draw controls, while Rose leads the way in caused turnovers (11) and ground balls (14).
 
Three goalies have seen at least 42 minutes in goal with Giavonna Perkins leading the way with appearances in all five games and 187 minutes between the posts. She is 2-2 with a 15.44 goals against average and a.392 save percentage.
