SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team climbed four spots in both Division II national polls released Monday, climbing to No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll and rising to No. 5 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.

The IWLCA poll is widely used as the official national ranking throughout the season. Slippery Rock opened the year at No. 8 in the preseason poll before slipping to No. 11 before even playing a game. After a 2-0 week last week to open the season, SRU soared back into the top 10 at No. 7 this week.

The climb in the rankings comes after Slippery Rock went 2-0 last week with a pair of wins over reigning conference champions and NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last spring. The Rock opened the season with an 18-9 win at home against reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Ashland and closed the week with a 13-12 upset win at No. 5 West Chester, which snapped the Golden Rams' streak of 60 consecutive regular season wins dating back to March 22, 2022.

Slippery Rock is now the top ranked team from the Atlantic Region in the national poll at No. 7. West Chester slipped five spots to No. 10 to give the region two teams in this week's top 10.

The region also has five more teams ranked in this week's top 25, including No. 12 East Stroudsburg, No. 14 Wingate, No. 20 Kutztown, No. 21 Seton Hill and No. 25 Lander.

Slippery Rock will close out a tough stretch of three games against NCAA Tournament qualifiers from last year when No. 19 Grand Valley State visits SRU Sunday for a noon game. That will mark the third straight defending conference champion SRU has faced to open the year after Grand Valley won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last spring.
