Rock hits road for matches at Seton Hill and California

The Slippery Rock volleyball team continues PSAC West competition this weekend with road matches 6 p.m. Friday against Seton Hill and 6 p.m. Saturday versus California (Pa.).

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team continues Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition this weekend with road matches 6 p.m. Friday against Seton Hill University and 6 p.m. Saturday versus California (Pa.).

Series History
While Seton Hill holds a 19-12 record against The Rock all-time, SHU and SRU have split the season series over the last four years with each team winning on its respective home courts during the stretch. The Griffins defeated The Rock in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) earlier in the season at the Storm Volleyball Classic in what was a rare non-conference match between the two PSAC West foes.

Slippery Rock has won six of its last seven matches against the Vulcans to trim California's record in the series, which traces back to 1979, to 51-36-1. A year ago, The Rock and California traded home wins with SRU earning a victory at Morrow Field House in four sets and the Vulcans countering with a five-set win at the Convocation Center.

PRODUCTION OF LATE
• 21 Rock athletes (95.5 percent of the active roster) have played at least one set over SRU's last five matches.
 
• Ava Haynes (26), Marley Annis (21), Hayden Deming (20), Victoria Nalbach (19) and Gwen McCarthy (19) have been SRU's attack leaders in the last two weeks.
 
• Paityn Krause has distributed 74 assists and served four aces over the stretch – both of which are team-highs – in addition to being one of four SRU athletes with over 20 digs (22) alongside Haynes (26), Kara Pasquale (34) and Ellie Friedrichs (32).
 
• Seven of Ali Haynes' 13 kills in 2026 have come in SRU's last three matches. Likewise, Sidney Stevenson made 13 of her 15 digs on the year in last weekend's matches against Edinboro and Gannon.

THE ROCK ATTACK IN 2026
• Entering the weekend, Marley Annis (131) and Ava Haynes (105) have both eclipsed 100 kills for the year, securing career-highs in the process. Annis' 2.98 kills per set rank eighth in the PSAC, while her .152 attack percentage is also the best on SRU among The Rock's outside hitters.
  
• Emry Rumbaugh enters the Seton Hill match third on the team in kills with 75.
 
• Slippery Rock is 5-3 on the year when either Annis, Haynes or Rumbaugh reaches a double-digit kill total, but 0-8 when they are held under 10 kills.
 
• Supplementing Slippery Rock's attack have been Victoria Nalbach, Hayden Deming and Gwen McCarthy. SRU's top middle hitter, Nalbach sits at 60 kills on a .233 attack percentage. Deming and McCarthy meanwhile have combined for 86 kills with 45 and 41, respectively.
 
• Ellie Friedrichs (18), Leah Schreckengost (11) and Paityn Krause (11) have been The Rock's top servers this season in terms of aces.
 
• Setting duties of late have been distributed between Krause and Emily Loeffler.
