Â
BEST START, BEST STREAK
Not only is Slippery Rock's 7-0 opening to the 2026 season the best start in program history, the seven consecutive victories also represent the longest overall winning streak in program history.
Â
AND THEN THERE WERE 2
Following Bloomsburg's overtime loss against Pace on Wednesday, there are just two undefeated teams remaining in Division II field hockey: The Rock and Kutztown.
Â
ROCK MOVES UP TO 8th
On the heels of the best start in program history, Slippery Rock moved up one spot to No. 8 in this week's NFHCA national poll.
Â
After being ranked ninth in the nation the last two weeks, SRU's No. 8 spot in this week's rankings is tied for the second highest position in the national poll in program history: the 2017 team spent one week ranked fifth in the nation and the 2012 team was ranked eighth in Division II for the final four weeks of the season.
Â
ROCKING THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Slippery Rock heads into the Millersville game ranked in the top 10 of Division II (34 teams) in a plethora of categories.
Â
Assists Per Game: 2nd (2.86)
Scoring Margin: 3rd (3.29)
Points Per Game: 3rd (11.14)
Goals Per Game: 4th (4.14)
Penalty Corners Per Game: 4th (10.57)
Goals Against Average: 6th (0.86)
Save Percentage: 7th (.813)
Â
FIRST HALF IS OUR HALF
Slippery Rock is outscoring its opposition 19-2 in the first two quarters of games this season.
Â
TIED FOR MOST WINS SINCE 2017
With 10 regular season games still to be played in 2026, this year's team has already matched the highest win total inside the program since 2017 (10-9).
Â
EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE
In terms of totals, 2026 is the first season SRU has ever scored 29 goals in its first seven games.
Â
ROCK SOLID DEFENSE
2026 is the first season SRU has allowed six or fewer goals in its first seven games since 1992. Opponents are scoring just 0.86 goals per game on 6.3 attempts a contest – including only 4.7 attempts on target a game.
Â
Starting goalkeeper
Sam Black carries a 0.70 GAA with a .778 save percentage and two shutouts into Saturday's game. Black is seventh in the nation in GAA.
Â
Haylie Sucharski (2) and
Roz Mikulak (1) have combined for The Rock's three defensive saves.
A START TO REMEMBER
Lucy Hutchinson is in the midst of arguably the best offensive stretch of games ever by a Rock athlete.
Â
Over seven starts, the 2025 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference athlete has compiled 24 points on 10 goals and four assists while placing 34 of 48 attempts on goal. Hutchinson ranks second in the nation in points per game (3.43) and third in goals per game (1.43).
Â
With over half the year still to be played, Hutchinson is already tied for the seventh highest single season point total in program history.
Â
CONSTANT OFFENSE
Coral Piramo has logged at least one point in all seven games this season, resulting in the junior ranking second on the team in points (13), goals (5) and assists (3) to go with 20 shots on goal.
Â
ALREADY A CAREER-YEAR FOR WILLIAMS
Just seven games into her junior year,
Grace Williams has already tallied career-highs in points (12), goals (5) and shots on goal (18), while matching her previous top assist total (2).
Â
ANOTHER MULTI-GOAL GAME FOR HOFFMAN
The highlight of The Rock's 5-1 Sept. 26 victory at Maryville was a two-goal performance by
Hilary Hoffman.
Â
Hoffman, who has four goals and one assist in 2026, has now recorded three multi-goal games over her career: which is tied with Hutchinson for the most by any active Rock athlete.
Â
INSTANT IMPACT FRESHMEN
Another factor in The Rock's unprecedented start has been the contributions of a talented rookie class.
Â
•
Delaney Evans has enjoyed an ultra-productive road trip thus far with three goals over SRU's first round of road contests.
Â
•
Keila Schutte-Hanekom has started three of her five games played, registering three points on gone goal and one assist.
Â
• A starter in all seven games,
Josie Shultz has two assists.
Â
•
Meghan O'Donnell is a key reserve off the bench as one of three Rock rookies to have played in all seven games this year.
Â
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
Riley Cloude assisted on three of The Rock's 11 goals in wins at Roberts Wesleyan (6-1) and Maryville (5-1) last week. The Millersville game will mark Cloude's 41st consecutive game played and 35th straight start, both of which are bests for active Rock athletes.
Â
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Slippery Rock's starting lineup has stayed wildly consistent over the course of the first month of the year. Black, Hutchinson, Williams, Hoffman, Mikulak, Cloude, Shultz, Sucharski,
Brooke Page and Ava Masorit have each started all seven games with Piramo (4) and Schutte-Hanekom (3) splitting time in the 11th spot.
Â
HOME ON THE HORIZON
Slippery Rock has just one road game remaining following Saturday's game before returning to Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for a three-game stretch Oct. 10-17 against Kutztown, D'Youville and East Stroudsburg.

ROCK SELECTS CAPTAINS FOR 2026
Seniors
Lucy Hutchinson and
Paige Shannon were selected as team captains for the 2026, the SRU coaching staff recently announced.
Â
MALISHCHAK + EBERHART TO ROCK HALL OF FAME
Two former members of the Slippery Rock field hockey program were named to the SRU Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2026.
Â
Vicki (Peterson) Eberhart and Gabrielle Malishchak will join five other former Slippery Rock greats as the latest members to join the SRU Athletics Hall of Fame when the 2026 class is enshrined Oct. 9.
Â
In addition to being a two-time All-PSAC honoree in field hockey who still owns the single-season record for points per game, Eberhart was one of a rare group of athletes at Slippery Rock that not just participated in multiple sports, but excelled and earned numerous honors in multiple sports. She won two PSAC titles in the high jump and one PSAC title in the pole vault, was an All-American in the high jump.
Â
Malishchak is the only four-time All-PSAC honoree in SRU field hockey history and the only first team All-American in program history. She still ranks fifth all-time at SRU in assists, played on an SRU team that reached as high as a No. 8 national ranking.
