COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team climbed one spot to No. 7 in this week's NCAA Division II rankings when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its updated national poll Tuesday.

Since beginning the season unranked and picked to finish last in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, The Rock have steadily gained national recognition by winning their first eight games of the season.

After being ranked ninth in the nation for two weeks, SRU was slotted eighth in the nation a week ago before continuing its journey up the NFHCA rankings to seventh this week. Throughout Slippery Rock program history there has been just one other Rock team ranked higher than seventh by the NFHCA: the 2017 team spent one week ranked fifth in the nation (Oct. 3-10).

Slippery Rock continued its undefeated season last week by earning a 2-1 PSAC road victory at Millersville University. The win over the Marauders improved SRU's record 8-0 overall.

Kutztown, the only other undefeated team in the nation aside from The Rock, remained atop the NFHCA poll this week, followed in the top five East Stroudsburg, Newberry, Shippensburg and West Chester.

Bloomsburg was positioned one spot in front of Slippery Rock at No. 6. The Rock, Indiana (Pa.), Saint Anselm and Assumption made up the remainder of the poll.

With nine games remaining in the regular season, The Rock's eight wins in 2026 already ties this year's team for the seventh winningest season in the program's 54-year history as well as being the most victories in a single season at SRU since a 10-win year in 2017.

One of only two undefeated teams remaining in Division II, Slippery Rock's impressive start to 2026 has led to SRU statistically ranking third in the nation in points per game (10.38), fourth in goals per game (3.88), fourth in scoring margin (+3.00), fourth in penalty corners per game (10.63), fifth in save percentage (.821) and sixth in goals against average (0.88).

Slippery Rock plays a pair of fellow nationally ranked opponents this week 4 p.m. Wednesday at No. 4 Shippensburg and 11 a.m. Saturday against No. 1 Kutztown at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
