MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country remained unbeaten on the year with a victory at the Allegheny XC Classic Saturday at Allegheny College.
 
The Rock put all five scorers in the top 15 places to run away with the team victory with 39 total points. Saint Francis took second with 53 points, followed by Geneva in third with 79 points, Indiana (Pa.) in fourth with 142 points and Grove City in fifth with 144 points. A total of 12 complete teams and 158 individual runners finished the race.
 
Slippery Rock picked up a second win on the year after opening the season with a win at Edinboro two weeks ago.
 
Ruthie Hughes led the way with a third place overall finish and was the second collegiate finisher after covering the 6,000-meter hilly course in 23:53. Jennifer Cichra was seventh in 24:26 to give The Rock two in the top 10.
 
Hannah Burgoon took 11th in 24:51, followed by Sydney Heltzell in 12th in 24:52 and Carissa Flynn in 15th in 25:09 to round out the five scorers.
 
The top seven was capped by Kayla Hanna in 17th in 25:13 and Marabelle Thornberry in 18th in 25:52.  
 
The Rock will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Lock Haven Invitational for a preview of the LHU course that will host the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in November.
