SERIES HISTORY
The Rock and Valkyries have met on one previous occasion, a 2-1 CU victory during the 2023 season. Slippery Rock and Converse played to a 1-1 tie through three quarters before a goal from Brookly Widdess with under three minutes to play in regulation spurred the Valkyries onto a win. Eight current Rock athletes as well as four active members of the Converse roster played in the game.

WEEK 1 RECAP
Slippery Rock opened its 2025 season with back-to-back home victories at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. SRU downed Adelphi University, 1-0, in its season-opener followed by a 2-1 triumph over Pace University.

GOING FOR 3
A victory over Lander would mark the sixth 3-0 start to a season in program history, and the first since 2018. Other occurrences of 3-0 starts at The Rock happened in 1976, 1978, 1987, 2012 and 2014.

AFTER 3 COMES 4
If SRU were to sweep its weekend road trip the 2025 team would be just third edition of Rock field hockey to start the year with four consecutive wins. The only other times SRU began a season 4-0 were 1976 and 1978 years: 49 and 46 years ago, respectively.

REVESZ STARTS STRONG
There are 20 head coaches that are in their first year as a head coach throughout the NCAA – regardless of division – in 2025. Of those 20 head coaches, The Rock's Missy Revesz is one of just nine coaches to earn two wins already.

Even more impressive is the fact that Revesz is in a group of only four first-year coaches this season to have started with two consecutive wins along with Kellie Joyce (Bryant), Maggie Sohns (Dickinson) and Derek Aspinall (Marian).

NEAR RECORD DEFENSE
By yielding just one goal in its first two games, the 2025 Slippery Rock field hockey team became just one of just seven teams in program history to open the year with no more than one goal allowed in its first two games. The 1976, 1978 and 1987 teams all registered back-to-back shutouts while the 1991, 1997, 2018 and 2025 teams each surrendered one goal in its first two games.

Among the many athletes helping SRU to its early impressive defensive success have been goalie Leah Riegling and defenders Megan Rude, Roz Mikulak, Ava Masorti and Christina Clymer.

THE ROCK'S CLOSER
Lucy Hutchinson scored two of SRU's three goals in its two victories last week. Both of the scores were game-winning goals in the fourth quarter. As of Thursday, Hutchinson is one of only four athletes in Division II to have multiple game-winning goals already.

PIRAMO GETS ON THE BOARD
Coral Piramo supplemented Hutchinson's offensive production with a goal of her own as part of The Rock's victory over Pace. The score came as part of a team-best three-shot performance for Piramo.

SHARING IS CARING
Slippery Rock had assists on two of its three goals in its wins over Adelphi and Pace courtesy of Grace Williams and Hilary Hoffman.

ATTACKING THE CAGE
Slippery Rock exited its opening weekend of the season having taken 14 shots, eight of which were on target.

Piramo and Madison Shomo head to Lander tied for team-high honors in total shots with three, followed by Hutchinson (2), Hoffman (2), Williams (1), Christina Clymer (1), Roz Mikulak (1) and Maddie Orrson (1).

Hutchinson and Shomo lead The Rock in shots on goal at two apiece.

ROCK SOLID START FOR RIEGLING
Rock goalkeeper Leah Riegling made the first two starts of her collegiate career last week. In earning a pair of wins, Riegling made three saves, compiled a .750 save percentage and tallied a 0.50 Goals Against Average.

CLEARING CORNERS
Slippery Rock did not allow a goal off any of its opponent's 11 penalty corners over its opening two games of the year.

HEADING SOUTH
While steadily growing, field hockey remains predominantly an east coast sport in the United States and as such this weekend's games will be two of the furthest road trips that a Slippery Rock has traveled to play a game in program history.

The Lander and Converse contests are the fourth and sixth longest trips that SRU has made to play games away from home.

Longest Road Trips in Program History
1. Northern Michigan University: 1980 (703 miles)

FAMILIAR FACES
While the majority of Converse's current roster did not play in the 2023 game between The Rock and Valkyries, there is one athlete for SRU that will be very much familiar with Converse. Ava Masorti began her collegiate career at Converse as a freshman in 2024, starting five of 15 games played, before transferring to SRU for her sophomore season in 2025.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Slippery Rock used the same starting lineup combination of Riegling, Mikulak, Shomo, Piramo, Clymer, Rude, Masorti, Hoffman, Orrson, Riley Cloude and Hannah Thomas in each of its first two games. SRU used six different starting lineup combinations in its 16-game schedule last year.

NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Dating back to the 2010 season, Slippery Rock holds a commanding 43-23 (.652) record against non-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams.
