2025 National Academic Team Award

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team was one of 19 programs in Division II to earn the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Team Award, the NFHCA announced Tuesday.

The NFHCA National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team GPA of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year.

A perennial contender for the nation's top team GPA over the last decade, Slippery Rock finished just outside of the top three this season with a team GPA of 3.60.

Pace led Division II with a 3.73 GPA and was followed in the top three by American International (3.72) and Maryville (3.67).

A total of 15 of Slippery Rock's 24 rostered student-athletes from the 2025 season have earned an individual academic award from the NFHCA over the last two weeks.

Julia Boettler, Riley Cloude, Amaly Klock, Ava Masorti, Avery McCann, Roz Mikulak, Emily Newton, Maddie Orrson, Brooke Page, Leah Riegling, Megan Rude, Paige Shannon, Madison Shomo, Haylie Sucharski and Hanna Thomas were all named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Rock's 15 National Academic Squad honorees, or 62.5 percent of their 2025 roster, matches a four-year high for the program. Across all of Division II, Slippery Rock was tied for 10th in the nation, and fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, in total number of National Academic Squad choices. Additionally, SRU was 14th in the country in terms of percentage of roster to make the list.

Additionally, Boettler, Masorti, Mikulak, Orrson, Riegling and Sucharski were also named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction for having a cumulative of at least 3.9 in addition to earning National Academic Squad accolades.

Riegling and Sucharski have both been recognized by the NFHCA as Scholars of Distinction on three occasions. The duo are the 11th and 12th athletes in program history to garner Scholar of Distinction accolades at least three times in their collegiate careers.

Slippery Rock concluded its 2025 season with a 5-12 overall record. The five victories were the most by a Rock team over the last three seasons.
