NFHCA National Academic Squad

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team placed 15 student-athletes on the Division II National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

The Division II National Academic Squad program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the 2025-26 academic year.
Â
The Rock's 15 honorees, or 62.5 percent of their 2025 roster, matches a four-year high for the program.
Â
Across all of Division II, Slippery Rock was tied for 10th in the nation, and fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, in total number of National Academic Squad honorees. Additionally, SRU was 14th in the country in terms of percentage of roster to make the list.

Highlighting the list of honorees for The Rock was
Megan Rude, who was named to the National Academic Squad for a fourth consecutive year.

Julia Boettler,
Leah Riegling,
Paige Shannon,
Madison Shomo and
Haylie Sucharski were all recognized as National Academic Squad performer for the third time in their careers while
Riley Cloude,
Ava Masorti,
Roz Mikulak and
Emily Newton received the distinction for a second time.

Rounding out The Rock's representatives on the all-academic team were first-time award recipients
Amaly Klock,
Avery McCann,
Maddie Orrson,
Hanna Thomas and
Brooke Page.

Wednesday's announcement was the first of four academic awards to be released in the coming days by the NFHCA — the NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be announced Friday, the NFHCA National Academic Team awards on Feb. 17 and the National Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Feb. 19.

Entering the 2025-26 academic year, the Slippery Rock field hockey team had recorded the highest GPA in NCAA Division II for seven out of the last 15 years.
Slippery Rock concluded its 2025 season with a 5-12 overall record. The five victories were the most by a Rock team over the last three seasons.
