SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Missy Revesz has been named the head coach of the Slippery Rock University field hockey program, SRU Director of Athletics
Roberta Page announced Wednesday. An assistant at The Rock for the last seven years, and interim head coach since May, Revesz was chosen to lead the program going forward following a national search.
Â
"Missy has been an integral part of our field hockey program for the past seven years and we are thrilled to elevate her to the head coaching role," said Page. "Her passion for the sport, dedication to our student-athletes and deep understanding of our program's culture make her the ideal leader to guide us forward."
Â
A pillar of stability inside the program, Revesz has been the top assistant for the Slippery Rock field hockey team since joining former head coach Julie Swiney's staff in 2018. Upon Swiney's departure from The Rock in 2020, Revesz was retained as an assistant coach on Rayell Wallace's staff for the past five seasons.
Â
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to President Riley, Dr. Page and the search committee for entrusting me with the future of Rock field hockey," said Revesz. "I am honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to continuing our pursuit of success both on and off the field."
Â
When Wallace left to take the head coaching position at Shippensburg University following the conclusion of the 2024 season, Revesz was appointed to guide the program on an interim basis before officially becoming the 13th head coach in program history in July.
Â
Revesz has helped lead the program to 33 wins while mentoring five All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference athletes including returning junior forward/midfielder
Hilary Hoffman.
Â
Additionally, Slippery Rock field hockey's academic reputation is virtually unmatched. Since Revesz's arrival at SRU, the program has earned the best GPA in Division II field hockey twice along with holding the highest GPA of any PSAC field hockey team on six occasions.
Â
Before coming to The Rock, Revesz began her career as an assistant at the College of Wooster (2015-16) and Oberlin College (2017).
Â
Prior to embarking on a coaching career, Revesz was a standout athlete at Division I Kent State University where she appeared in 74 games over her career, making 29 starts and totaling 21 career points on eight goals and five assists.
Â
After guiding the Golden Flashes to 11 wins, a Mid-American Conference title and a berth into the NCAA Tournament as a senior, Revesz received a bachelor's degree in exercise science with a minor in athletic coaching from Kent State in 2015.
Â
Revesz's first game officially leading the Slippery Rock field hockey program comes 1 p.m. Sept. 4 against Adelphi University at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Â
Slippery Rock is currently slated to return 17 student-athletes from the 2024 roster including seven starters as well as two reserves who appeared in at least eight games a year ago.
