LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University led all institutions in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with five Team GPA Awards and SRU student-athletes recorded the highest overall cumulative GPA in the conference in 2024-25 according to an announcement from the league office Thursday.
Â
"I couldn't be prouder of our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, teaching faculty and administration," said
Roberta Page, director of athletics. "We want to win in competition while also excelling in the classroom and being good citizens in our community and the performance of our student-athletes this year confirms we are meeting those expectations with remarkable academic performances complementing our success in competition."
Â
Slippery Rock student-athletes posted the highest average GPA among all 17 institutions in the PSAC at 3.489, which was a slight increase from 3.458 following the 2023-24 academic year.
Â
The five Slippery Rock teams that recorded the highest GPA in their respective sports were men's soccer (3.516), women's lacrosse (3.713), women's soccer (3.752), women's tennis (3.723) and men's track & field (3.356). East Stroudsburg and Seton Hill each had four Team GPA Award winners to rank second behind SRU in the total number of Team GPA Awards.
Â
The women's lacrosse team and men's track & field team have now won four consecutive PSAC Team GPA Awards after also leading the league in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Â
Slippery Rock saw all 15 of its teams (indoor and outdoor track & field are combined for these purposes) record a GPA above 3.00 for the first time ever. The Rock were one of only three institutions in the PSAC to have all their athletic teams above a 3.00 in 2024-25, joining East Stroudsburg and Mansfield.
Â
The SRU women's soccer team posted the highest GPA of all Rock teams in 2024-25 with a 3.752 GPA. A total of nine Slippery Rock teams recorded a GPA of 3.50 or above and four teams recorded a GPA of 3.70 or above. In addition to women's soccer (3.752), women's lacrosse (3.713) and women's tennis (3.723), The Rock volleyball team also recorded a 3.703 GPA to rank second among all teams in the PSAC.
Â
More than half of Slippery Rock's teams ranked in the top two in the PSAC in terms of GPA in 2024-25 with five teams ranked first and three teams ranked second. 12 of The Rock's 15 teams ranked in the top five in their respective sport and eight of the 15 teams increased their GPA from a year ago.
Â
Slippery Rock was the only school in the PSAC to place in the top two in average GPA and the Dixon Trophy standings, with SRU earning the No. 1 GPA in the league and finishing second in the Dixon Trophy all-sport standings by a tenth of a point behind Gannon.Â
Â
SRU had a school record 297 student-athletes, 62 percent of its total number of athletes, recognized earlier this week as PSAC Scholar-Athletes for owning a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. The Rock also swept the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards with track & field and cross country runner
Anna Igims earning the women's honor and football quarterback
Brayden Long earning the men's honor, which marked just the third time in the 35-year history of the award that one school swept both awards.
Â
Slippery Rock finished the year with 14 of its 15 teams owning a cumulative GPA above the league average for their respective sport.
