Athletic Communication earns national creative awards

The Slippery Rock Athletic Communication office picked up 15 national awards, including a pair of "Best in Division II" recognitions when the College Sports Communicators announced its annual Creative and Digital Design Contest results.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Athletic Communication Office was recognized with 15 national awards, including a pair of "Best in Division II" distinctions, when the College Sports Communicators announced the organization's Creative and Digital Design Contest results last week in Las Vegas at the annual CSC Unite Convention.

The 15 awards earned by the SRU Athletic Communication Office were for digital design work, including photography, social media graphics and social media campaigns. This year's contest featured a record number of entries with more than 2,500 total entries from more than 250 institutions and conferences.

Director of athletic communication Jon Holtz and creative student-workers Emily Li and Garrett Dollin were responsible for the photography and design work, with input from assistant director Tyler McIntosh and graduate assistant Ryan Mosher.

Holtz and Dollin were recognized with "Best in Division II" honors for graphic design work and Dollin earned Best Student Worker recognition among all levels nationally for his work on the football signing day materials.

SRU also had photos taken by Li and Holtz that were recognized among the best in the nation and had numerous graphics recognized in multiple categories.

Since transforming the former Sports Information Office to the title of Athletic Communication in 2014, Holtz, McIntosh and the athletic communication staff have been recognized with more than 180 national and regional awards for excellence in the field. This year's CSC awards bring the office's total to 128 Creative and Digital Design and Writing Contest awards, including 36 "Best in the Nation" distinctions.
