Rankings Data Sheet
Â
INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team is one of eight teams from the Atlantic Region to be included in the first set of NCAA Regional Rankings that were announced Wednesday by the Division II Women's Lacrosse Committee.
Â
The first set of rankings are listed in alphabetical order to show the top teams currently in consideration for postseason berths. The first numerical order rankings will be published next Wednesday, April 23.
Â
The NCAA Regional Rankings are the only rankings that matter when it comes to determining which teams from each region will qualify for the National Championship Tournament. Qualification for the tournament has changed this year with automatic bids being offered in each conference that is eligible, and the rest of the field being filled by at-large selections.
Â
The Atlantic Region postseason field will be made up of six total teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference and the South Atlantic Conference with each conference's champion earning an automatic bid. The other three bids will be chosen by the selection committee using criteria that includes overall win-loss record, in-region win-loss record, weighted strength of schedule, wins against teams with records above .500, the rating performance index (RPI) and performance indicator (PI) scores, and the results of head-to-head competition.
Â
Slippery Rock currently owns the third-highest win total in the region behind 13-0 West Chester and 14-1 Wingate. At 12-1 overall, SRU is one of just nine teams in the country with one or fewer losses. The Rock are 4-0 against teams ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Region in terms of RPI and performance indicator scores with all four of those wins coming on the road against East Stroudsburg, Seton Hill, Limestone and Newberry.
Â
The PSAC owns six of the eight spots in the alphabetical list announced Wednesday with West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and Millersville representing the Eastern Division and Slippery Rock and Seton Hill representing the West. The SAC has two teams on the list with Wingate and Limestone, while the MEC has no teams ranked among the top eight.
Â
Slippery Rock is in the regional rankings for the third straight year after also appearing in the 2023 and 2024 rankings. This marks the fourth time the team has been ranked since SRU brought the sport back in 2007. The program is looking to make its first-ever NCAA Division II postseason appearance after narrowly missing out last year, finishing fifth in the regional rankings when only four teams qualified in 2024.
Â
Slippery Rock will look to continue its postseason push Friday with a 7 p.m. game on the road at Indiana (Pa.).
