LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University midfielder
Leora Owings was named the Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's lacrosse awards Tuesday.
Â
Owings, a junior from Medina, Ohio, picks up her first weekly award of the season after a strong performance over a pair of wins last week that improved The Rock to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in PSAC West action.
Â
She stuffed the box scores last week in leading The Rock to a 2-0 record with a 19-3 win over Edinboro and an 18-10 win over IUP, despite playing limited minutes against Edinboro as SRU rested its starters after the first quarter.
Â
Owings finished the week with two goals, two assists, four caused turnovers, five ground balls and 13 draw controls over the two games with most of those stats coming in the win over IUP. She finished that game with team-highs of four caused turnovers, nine draw controls and five ground balls to go along with one goal and one assist.
Â
No. 22 Slippery Rock will travel to No. 14 Seton Hil Wednesday for a PSAC West game that will determine sole possession of first place in the division. Game time is set for 4 p.m. from Greensburg.
