LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock earned back-to-back home PSAC West victories with a pair of four-set wins last week over Seton Hill University and California (Pa.).

STRONG START IN THE PSAC WEST
A successful weekend for The Rock inside Morrow Field House would mark a variety of accomplishments that have not been achieved by SRU in some time.

• If SRU beats Edinboro, it would mark Slippery Rock's first 3-1 record to start conference competition since the 2014 team won its first four PSAC matches.

• Additionally, two wins or a weekend split would also put this year's team among the best 18-match starts to a year over the last decade.

• If Slippery Rock goes 2-0 this weekend, it will match this year's team with the 2023 and 2014 squads as having the best record through 18 matches (11-7) to start a season since 2013.

• A split against Edinboro and Gannon would still position this year's team as one of just three Rock teams since 2013 with a winning record through 18 matches.

VONDERHAAR HONORED
Lauren VonderHaar was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after leading the Slippery Rock volleyball team to a perfect 2-0 record last week.

VonderHaar earned the honor – her second such accolade of the season and seventh PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week award of her career – after recording 16 blocks (five solo / 11 assisted / 2.00 per set) in addition to going for 17 kills on an efficient .350 attack percentage.

The Rock's senior middle blocker has started all 16 matches this season on the way to compiling 86 total blocks (22 solo / 64 assisted) defensively all the while ranking second on the team in kills with 122 off a .259 attack percentage.

ROCKING THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Slippery Rock begins the week ranked highly in Division II in several statistical categories in addition to having two athletes prominently featured in the individual rankings.

• Collectively, Slippery Rock ranks ninth in the country – out of 275 Division II teams - in total blocks (153), 13th in total digs (1,069), 23rd in blocks per set (2.4) and 51st in total kills (741).

• Individually, VonderHaar sits fourth in total blocks and 12th in blocks per set, while Kara Pasquale is 15th in total digs (311) and 38th in digs per set (4.86).

COMING OUT HOT
• Slippery Rock has won the first set in 11 of its 16 matches this season.

• SRU is also a healthy 10-6 in the second set of its matches this year.

STARTING TO GET GOING LATE TOO
• While Slippery Rock is just 1-4 in the fifth set of matches this season, SRU has improved its showing in the fourth set of contests to 5-1 following its success against California and Seton Hill.

CHEVALIER LEADS THE WAY
Slippery Rock holds a 49-52 (.485) overall record in the last four years. Over that time range, SRU is an excellent 29-11 (.725) when senior outside hitter Callie Chevalier registers at least 10 kills in a match compared to a 20-41 (.328) showing when Chevalier is limited to single-digit kill production or does not play.

Chevalier is in the midst of what is shaping up to be a career year, and an appropriate cap to what's been a great collegiate career. She's started every match while playing all 64 sets en route to totaling 187 kills (2.92 per set) on a .157 attack percentage with seven aces, 184 digs (2.88 dps) and 31 blocks (4 solo / 27 assisted).

RUMBAUGH STEPPING UP EARLY
Emry Rumbaugh, a freshman out of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, is in the process of stacking up a string of great performances in what's turning into a stellar rookie year. Rumbaugh is averaging 11.5 kills, a .301 attack percentage and 3.0 blocks over The Rock's last four matches. Overall, she is third for Slippery Rock in kills with 109 via a .200 attack percentage.

Rumbaugh is on pace to end her first collegiate season with 190 kills and 61 blocks, which would make her the sixth freshman in program history - and first since Erinn Kahoe in 2017 - to close their inaugural season with at least 190 kills and 60 blocks.

SRU Freshmen with at least 190 Kills / 60 Blocks
Erinn Kahoe (2017): 222 Kills / 80 Blocks
Emily Sokolowski (2014): 202 Kills / 60 Blocks
Anastasia Urbanik (2005): 417 Kills / 92 Blocks
Louise Schultz (2004): 287 Kills / 67 Blocks
Nikki St. Antoine (1993): 442 Kills / 91 Blocks

GROUP EFFORT UP FRONT
While VonderHaar spearheads The Rock's defensive effort up front, it has been anything but a one-athlete show that's pushed SRU up among the nation's leaders in total blocks.

Alongside VonderHaar are seven other athletes with double-digit block totals in Rumbaugh (35), Chevalier (31), Addison Jones (31), Victoria Nalbach (26), Ava Haynes (19), Kaitlyn Danszczak (17) and Marley Annis (10).

The last time SRU had more than seven athletes with at least 10 blocks was in 2022.

MCCARTHY COMES UP BIG
One of the many keys to The Rock's victory over California was the play of Gwen McCarthy. In what was her fifth start of the year, McCarthy produced 12 kills courtesy of a .364 attack percentage all the while making three blocks.

McCarthy, who has 65 kills on the season, has tallied at least 12 kills in three of her five starts in 2025.

ANNIS DOING A BIT OF EVERYTHING
Marley Annis has been a key contributor in all facets of the game as a sophomore. A starter in 11 of 15 matches played, Annis enters the Edinboro match with 89 kills, 19 aces, 120 digs and 10 blocks. She ranks second on the team in aces, fourth in kills, fifth in digs and eighth in blocks.

In addition to posting at least 10 kills in five contests, Annis also has at least one ace in 11 appearances and five or more digs on 14 occasions.

ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK
Rounding out The Rock's offensive attack is the trio of Nalbach, Danszczak and Haynes.

Nalbach has nearly tripled her previous career-high in kills with 57 on an efficient .273 attack percentage. Danszczak is up to 45 kills over her 13 matches played while Haynes has garnered 36 kills - 18 of which have come over her last three appearances.

SETTING THE TABLE
• For a second straight year, setting duties at The Rock are being shared by the duo of Paityn Krause and Jaeden Yost. Both have played every set in all 16 matches, with Krause drawing nine starts and Yost seven.

• Krause has distributed a team-high 346 assists (5.41 per set) while making 130 digs (2.03 dps).

• Meanwhile, the veteran Yost has passed out 255 assists (3.98 aps) to go with 138 digs (2.16 dps).

• The duo has also combined to serve 35 of The Rock's 84 aces this year (41.7 percent) with Yost leading the way at 20 aces and Krause ranking third with 15.

RECORD BOOK UPDATE
Entering the Edinboro match, a trio of Slippery Rock's seniors find themselves continuing to climb SRU career record book in several statistical categories.

• With 344 career blocks, VonderHaar is now 25 rejections away from becoming SRU's sole leader in career blocks. The current record belongs to Laurie Flynn (1991-94 / 368).

• Yost is 41 assists away from becoming the eighth athlete in program history to record 2,000 career assists. She is also 100 assists shy of surpassing Haley Defibaugh (2014-17) for seventh on SRU's career assists ledger.

• Additionally, Yost's 133 career aces currently rank 11th all-time at The Rock – two away from tying Sally Scott (1997-00) for 10th place.

• With 831 kills to her name, Chevalier sits in 16th place at SRU, 15 behind Lindsay Weber (2002-05) for 15th. Chevalier is also on pace to become the 12th athlete in Slippery Rock history to reach 1,000 career kills later in the year.

DOUBLING UP
Five Rock athletes have combined to record 27 double-doubles on the year with Chevalier leading the way at eight.
