SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University women's tennis standouts
Alissia Kivi and
Nicole Kempton have earned an at-large berth to compete in the doubles championship at the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup, the governing body of college tennis announced Wednesday.
Â
The ITA Cup is the nation's premier individual championship for the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels.
Â
Taking place from October 16-19 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, this year's ITA Cup marks the 39th year of the tournament. The format of the competition was adjusted in 1990 to reflect what fans have come to know today with competitors from all four levels of play.
Â
There were 16 doubles teams from Division II that earned spots in the 2025 ITA Cup, including eight automatic qualifiers who won their regional championships and eight at-large berths, including Kivi and Kempton. The full list of selections and tournament draws across all divisions will be released in the coming days.
Â
Kivi and Kempton secured their spot at the ITA Cup on the heels of an outstanding 2024-25 season and a stellar start to the 2025-26 campaign.
Â
Not only have Kivi and Kempton made the doubles tournament final at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships in back-to-back years, the talented duo has also produced a career record of 34-12 when playing together, including a 23-7 showing against fellow Division II competition.
Â
After finishing last year ranked No. 38 in the ITA's national doubles rankings, Kempton and Kivi have begun this year with an 8-4 overall record, including a 5-1 mark against Division II competition.
Â
The lone setback against another Division II team so far this year came in a narrow 2-6, 7-6, 12-10 decision to the University of Charleston's Filippa Larsson and Sara Martinez in the regional finals. Larsson and Martinez closed last season as the 22nd-ranked team in Division II.
Â
Kivi and Kempton are the first doubles team from The Rock to make the ITA Cup since Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr in 2019.
Â
A full preview and breakdown of the 2025 ITA Cup will be posted on roackathletics.com the week of the competition.
