Rock to host Redhawks and No. 6 Huskies

The Slippery Rock field hockey team opens a stretch of six home games over its next seven contests when it hosts Roberts Wesleyan 3 p.m. Wednesday and Bloomsburg 1 p.m. Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team opens a stretch of six home games over its next seven contests with a pair of matchups this week at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
The Rock will first host Roberts Wesleyan University in a non-conference game 3 p.m. Wednesday followed by a 1 p.m. Saturday Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game against No. 6 Bloomsburg University.
 
LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME
Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, or in any SRU athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 9-0, during the 2023 season in what was the Redhawks' first year as a collegiate program. Leslie Colliver scored four goals and had one assist in the victory while Gianna Conti scored twice as well. The Rock placed 29 of their 38 total shots on goal in the win.
 
Among current Rock athletes that played in the victory, Paige Shannon had one assist while Hilary Hoffman placed five shots on goal. Megan Rude, Haylie Sucharski, Lucy Hutchinson, Lacey Berghorn, Madison Shomo, Leah Riegling, Julia Boettler and Sammy Graci also saw playing time in what was SRU's third largest victory in program history.

SERIES HISTORY
Since the series inception in 1983, Bloomsburg has strung together a 49-3 record against The Rock with SRU's victories occurring in 2013, 2014 and 2021. A year ago, the Huskies bested Slippery Rock, 4-1, in Bloomsburg. The only current Rock athlete to have registered a point against Bloomsburg, Hoffman has a goal and an assist over her three career games against the Huskies.

BRICK WALL IN THE FIRST 15
Slippery Rock is yet to allow a goal in the first quarter of a game this season. Since Division II field hockey switched to quarters from halves in 2019 no other Rock team has gone more than two games into the season without allowing a first-quarter goal.
 
DEFENDING THE CORNERS
While Slippery Rock has allowed 81 penalty corners this year (9.0 per game), SRU has only conceded three goals off penalty corners in 2025 – an opponent success rate of just 0.04 percent.
 
ROCK GOAL SCORERS
Lucy Hutchinson continues to pace The Rock's offensive attack with a team-leading five goals. Included in Hutchinson's goal total are three game-winning strikes.
 
Behind Hutchinson is a pack of five Rock athletes with one goal each Hilary Hoffman, Riley Cloude, Coral Piramo, Madison Shomo and Maddie Orrson.
 
SETTING UP THE OFFENSE
Slippery Rock has produced assists on seven of its 10 goals this year. The trio of Hoffman, Roz Mikulak and Grace Williams have two apiece with Cloude adding one.
 
A LOOK AT THE GOALIES
Emily Newton has started five of her six games played this year (342:02). She's stopped 57 shots for a .770 save percentage and a 2.98 Goals Against Average. Across Division II, Newton ranks seventh in the country in saves per game (9.5).
 
Leah Riegling serves as Newton's backup. She's started four games (210:00) this year, going 2-1 with 12 saves, a .706 save percentage and 1.43 GAA.
 
ATTACKING THE CAGE
Slippery Rock has compiled 66 shots this season on an average of 7.33 per game. Hutchinson (7), Mikulak (6) and Cloude (5) have combined for 18 SRU's 33 shots on goal while Hoffman (4), Piramo (4), Shomo (3), Orrson (2) and Williams (2) all have multiple attempts on target as well.

• Roberts Wesleyan has shown continuous improvement since its first year in 2023. After winning just once in their inaugural season, the Redhawks produced two wins in 2024 and four already this season after splitting their first eight games of 2025.
 
• Roberts Wesleyan comes to The Rock averaging 0.75 goals per game while surrendering 3.00 per contest.
 
• Makena Tooley (4) and Natalee Lawrence (2) have combined for all six of RWU's goals while Avery Carinci has logged three assists.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• The nationally ranked Huskies rattled off 10 straight wins to start the season prior to losing 2-0 to second-ranked Kutztown on Oct. 4.
 
• Not only does Bloomsburg limit opponents to 0.55 goals per game, it also averages 4.73 goals a contest. Eight of Bloomsburg's 10 wins have come via shutout while the Huskies have also scored multiple goals in all but two games.
 
• Bloomsburg's high-powered offense is spearheaded by Genna Bush, who's scored 14 goals while placing 33 of her 49 total shots on goal. 12 other Huskies have also scored multiple goals while the combination of Sophie Lawler and Kate Ferguson have six assists each.
 
• Defensively, goalkeeper Maura Greek has allowed just six goals. Greek holds a .829 save percentage with a scant 0.55 GAA.
