YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team recorded 13 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and one NCAA provisional mark at the YSU Icebreaker Friday at Youngstown State University.
 
The lone NCAA provisional mark for The Rock came in the elite section of the shot put, where Becca Martin took second with a throw of 13.72 meters. Savannah Schneck was sixth in the elite section as well with a PSAC qualifying throw of 12.15 meters.
 
Schneck then earned her own highlight of the meet when she won the weight throw with a heave of 15.83 meters, claiming the lone event win of the day for SRU.
 
Slippery Rock also picked up a pair of top three finishes in the triple jump with Alice Bogia and Aleks Brozeski placing second and third with matching jumps of 11.41 meters, which was just shy of the NCAA provisional standard of 11.72 meters.
 
Baylee Blauser paced the way in the long jump with an eighth place showing and a leap of 5.42 meters. Cassidy Davis took fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.61 meters and Allie Taylor and Addison Lyles both earned top 10 showings in the pole vault. Taylor was fourth with a mark of 3.55 meters and Lyles took sixth at 3.40 meters as SRU finished the day with at least one PSAC mark in every field event.
 
Freshman sprinter Jianna Long was the headliner on the track as she blazed to a fourth place showing in the 400-meter dash in 57.68 seconds. She was beaten only by a trio of NCAA Division I runners in her collegiate debut. Long then closed the day by teaming with Shannon McCullough, Annasophia Stauffer and Lydia Reed to take sixth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:07.40.
 
Ruthie Hughes showed fine form coming off the fall cross country season to place sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:51, nearly a full minute under the PSAC standard.
 
Chaley Younkin picked up a PSAC mark in the 60-meter hurdles after reaching the finals and placing eighth in 9.26 seconds and Samantha Gilbert rounded out the PSAC marks Friday with a 10th place showing in the 60-meter dash in 7.79 seconds.
 
Friday's meet marked the lone competition this calendar year for SRU, which will break now for the finals and the holidays before returning to action Jan. 25 at Ashland University. SRU was slated to have four athletes compete Saturday at a multi-event meet at Edinboro, but that competition was canceled due to winter storms.
