LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock split a weekend doubleheader at Gannon University Nov. 9-10, earning a season-opening win over Davis & Elkins College, 79-42, and falling to Glenville State University, 89-75.

Tahmala Thorpe led a group of 12 scorers against D&E with 13 points, while Kayley Joseph-Bernard reeled in 10 rebounds. The Rock shot 9-of-14 (.643) from the floor in the first quarter, pulling out to a 26-6 advantage that they would only increase as the game progressed.

Atkins recorded one of the best games of her career with 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists versus Glenville State, but The Rock came up short in the 14-point defeat. SRU kept the deficit to single digits for the majority of the game, but a 14-of-22 showing at the free throw line in the fourth quarter gave GSU the edge it needed to secure the win.

LEADING THE ROCK
Atkins leads Slippery Rock offensively after her double-double against Glenville State, averaging 13.5 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor through two games (9-of-18). Atkins also ranks second on the team with 9.0 rebounds per game.

Thorpe has also knocked down half of her shot attempts (7-of-14), averaging 11.0 points per game. Mairan Haggerty joins Atkins and Thorpe in the double-digit average with 11.0 points per game. The Seton Hill University transfer shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the floor in her opening weekend.

Joseph-Bernard has brought a well-rounded presence underneath, leading Slippery Rock with 10.0 rebounds per game in addition to her 8.0 points per game.

Brooklyn Jones has made four three-pointers this year in six attempts to earn a team-high .667 3-point average. Jones has started both of her games for SRU, averaging 6.5 points and a team-best 4.0 assists.

Haggerty, Thorpe and Deryn Moye have done well in transition, all tied for tops on the team with a pair of steals. Atkins is already a quarter of the way to her 12 blocks last year with three so far this season.

THE ROCK WINS BIG
Slippery Rock's 79-42 win over Davis & Elkins marked its largest margin of victory in 245 games. The Rock last won by at least 37 points when they picked up a 65-24 decision against Penn State Allegheny in 2014. Head coach Ryenn Micaletti was on the sideline for that game, serving as an assistant coach under Bobby McGraw.

The Rock came away with convincing leads in points in the paint (40-14), points off turnovers (24-7) and second chance points (26-9) against the Senators.

SRU's 37-point cushion also marked the team's largest season-opening victory since an 86-43 victory against Cheyney University in 1997 (43 points).

JUMPING RIGHT IN
Slippery Rock's newcomers have accounted for 85 of the team's 154 points, making up 55.2 percent of SRU's scoring.

Haggerty and Thorpe rank behind Atkins with 22 points apiece, while Joseph-Bernard stacks up fourth on the roster with 16 points.

While not included in the newcomers' total, Slippery Rock is glad to have Alyssa Gillin back in the lineup after missing last season with injury. The junior from Monaca, Pennsylvania has started both games and tallied 13 points.

SRU's freshmen and transfers have also comprised 41.1 percent of the team's rebounds, pulling down 39-of-95. That effort has been led by Joseph-Bernard, the Hofstra transfer who has totaled 10 rebounds in each of her two starts with SRU.

KNOCKING DOWN SHOTS
Through a pair of contests, Slippery Rock ranks fourth in the PSAC with a 46.7 field goal percentage. That number includes six players shooting at least 50 percent and nine players averaging at least 40 percent from the floor.

With two points against Davis & Elkins and 10 points against Glenville State, true freshman Rebecca Goetz has yet to miss a shot. The forward from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is 6-of-6 from the paint with one rebound, one assist and one block as well.

GOOD FROM DEEP, TOO
SRU has shot incredibly from beyond the 3-point arc as well, converting 46.4 percent of its 3-point chances. Atkins and Thorpe have both seen three of their five attempts from distance go in for 60 percent averages, while Jones has cashed in on four of her six 3-point shots for a 66.7 percent clip.

SRU's 46.4 three-point percentage as a team leads the PSAC as well as the entire Atlantic Region.

DISHING OUT HISTORY
Slippery Rock's 23 assists against Glenville State marked the most assists in a single game since SRU's 98-90 victory over Salem University in 2019 that came with 21 helpers.

SRU's outing with Glenville State was just one of nine recorded games in SRU women's basketball history with at least 23 assists. That effort was led by Atkins with seven, coming just three assists shy of a triple-double.

Jones aided in the efforts against the Pioneers with six assists, while Thorpe and Sophia Hook each brought four. Joseph-Bernard and Moye recorded one assist each.

STRONG OFF THE BOARDS
Slippery Rock leads the conference with 47.5 rebounds per game, also good enough for 12th nationally in Division II. That number has come with a well-balanced mix of 32.5 defensive rebounds per game (second in the PSAC, 10th in Division II) and 15.0 offensive rebounds per game (third in the PSAC, 37th in Division II).

Slippery Rock recorded a +26 rebounding margin against Davis & Elkins, a game that ranked sixth all-time in school history with 55 rebounds as a whole. SRU held the Senators to 29 rebounds in the victory.

Joseph-Bernard led the team with 10 boards, while Atkins, Haggerty and Endya Robinson each pulled down six. Hook and Tori Johnson both had five, while Moye brought in four. Thorpe tallied three rebounds, as Gillin, Jones and Kaylin Venick rounded out SRU's season opener with one defensive rebound each.

The Rock came away with 40 rebounds against Glenville State, while the Pioneers had a nice day off the boards themselves with 50. Atkins (12) and Joseph-Bernard (10) led the way for Slippery Rock, with 33 of The Rock's 40 bounds coming defensively.

THE ROCK vs. THE GMAC
Slippery Rock has won four of its last six games against Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponents, defeating Malone and Ursuline College in both 2021 and 2022.

A win over Malone would mark SRU's 21st all-time win against an opponent currently playing in the GMAC.

THE ROCK IN HOME OPENERS
Slippery Rock is 7-5 in its last 12 home openers dating back to 2011. The Rock last posted a win in their home opener in 2022, coincidentally when it defeated Malone, 60-58.

ROCK STARS OF RECENT
