KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Anna Igims won the individual race with a course record time and the Slippery Rock University women's cross country team defended its title at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Kutztown University's Farm Course, winning a second straight PSAC crown and the fourth title in program history.
Â
The Rock put six runners in All-PSAC positions and had seven runners in the top 35 on the way to winning the team race with 70 points. Shippensburg took second with 88 points, narrowly edging East Stroudsburg in third with 91 points. Kutztown was fourth with 122 points and Bloomsburg rounded out the top five with 133 points. 17 teams and 157 runners completed the 6,000-meter course.
Â
Igims ran away from the field to win her first career PSAC XC title with a time of 21:26, which was 32 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She picked up her fourth career All-PSAC award and was named the Most Outstanding Runner of the meet after breaking the Kutztown course record by 16 seconds. The former record of 21:42 was set by Neely Spence from Shippensburg in 2011.
Igims becomes just the second SRU female to ever win an individual PSAC title in cross country and the first since Gretchin Pecher in 1993.
Â
The Rock had three women earn first team All-PSAC honors for placing in the top 15 and three more earn second team All-PSAC honors for placing in the top 30.
Â
Ruthie Hughes had a career-best finish in third place to pick up her second straight first team All-PSAC award after she crossed the line in 22:00.
Jennifer Cichra also had a career-best effort to pick up first team honors with a 12th place finish in 23:00.
Â
Maddie Grillo earned her second straight All-PSAC award in 26th place in 23:33 and freshman
Carissa Flynn rounded out the SRU scorers in 28th place in 23:35. The Rock's sixth runner was freshman
Tatiana Holt, who also earned All-PSAC honors in 30th place in 23:38.
Â
Hannah Burgoon just finished outside the top 30 in 35th place in 23:46 and
Skye Hackathorn was 45th in 24:12 to give The Rock eight runners in the top 45.
Â
The victory marks the first time in school history that SRU has won back-to-back titles in women's cross country. It is just the fourth title in program history, joining the 1981, 1995 and 2023 teams.
Â
Slippery Rock will take next week off before returning to action Nov. 9 at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships at Lock Haven.
