Rock to cap off homecoming weekend vs. No. 3 ESU

The Slippery Rock field hockey team will host No. 3 East Stroudsburg 12 p.m. Sunday on Alumni Day at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -  The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will host No. 3 East Stroudsburg University 12 p.m. Sunday on Alumni Day at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME
Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, or in any SRU athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

ALUMNI DAY
Sunday will serve as The Rock's annual Alumni Day as SRU welcomes back all former members of the field hockey program. Prior to the game, Lisa Belcastro will take part in a ceremonial pass back.
 
Belcastro was a four-year starting goalkeeper for The Rock from 2007-10 and is still the program's career leader in saves (689) and starts by goalie (74).

SERIES HISTORY
East Stroudsburg has won 11 consecutive games in the series to improve their record against The Rock to 41-8-1 all-time. SRU's last win against ESU came in 2014 when the Warriors came to Mihalik-Thompson as the fifth-ranked team in the nation before leaving with a 2-1 defeat thanks to a goal by Michelle Couch at the conclusion of regulation.

Among active Rock athletes, Hilary Hoffman is the only member of the roster with a career point against the Warriors courtesy of what was the third goal of her rookie season in last year's 4-1 loss to ESU.
 
Goalkeeper Grace Burker has made 32 saves in her previous three games when playing the Warriors.

LAST TIME OUT

Slippery Rock lost an overtime-thriller at Frostburg State, 1-0, in what was the fourth overtime contest between The Rock and Bobcats over the previous five games of the series.
 
CLOSE CALLS
Four of The Rock's last five losses have been one-goal decisions.
 
SEASON-HIGH IN CORNERS
The Frostburg State game saw Slippery Rock rack up a season-high 15 penalty corners. Prior to the FSU game, SRU - which averages 6.3 corners per game – hadn't had more than 14 corners in a game since tallying 23 against Lincoln Memorial in 2022 (a stretch of 36 games).
 
WHEN THE ROCK SCORES
• Gianna Conti, who leads SRU in total points with 10, has accounted for four of The Rock's 13 goals this season.
 
• Bailee Christman is Slippery Rock's other multi-goal scorer through nine games with three.
 
• A pride of Rock athletes have tallied SRU's remaining six goals with one apiece in Hilary Hoffman, Leslie Colliver, Hazara Sandhu, Madison Shomo, Feli Stockler and Grace Williams.
 
• As a team, SRU averages 1.44 goals per game.

THE ROCK DEFENSE
• On average, Slippery Rock allows 3.44 goals per game on 17.9 shots and 10.4 penalty corners a contest. SRU has not surrendered more than two goals over each of its last three games.
 
• Leading the defense is veteran goalie Grace Burker who'll enter the East Stroudsburg game having made 57 saves while in possession of a .648 save percentage and a 3.43 Goals Agasinst Average.
 
• Burker ranks ninth in the nation in saves per game with 6.33.
 
• Clymer has firmly established herself as one of the top backs in the PSAC as evidenced by her four defensive saves. Among all PSAC athletes, only Morgan Sparks of Frostburg State has more defensive saves than Clymer with six.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
• The nationally ranked Warriors come to Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on a three-game winning streak including a 1-0 win earlier this week at home over Millersville. ESU's only two losses so far this season have come against Kutztown (4-3) and Assumption (2-1).
 
• East Stroudsburg ranks second in the nation in goals per game at 3.75 in addition to ranking second in penalty corners per game (11.75) and fourth in scoring margin (2.41).
 
• The trio of Jady van Gils, Minke Klijn and Allyson Forman have combined to score 26 of the Warriors' 45 goals this year. Gils ranks third in Division II with 10 goals with Klijn ranking seventh (10) and Forman ninth (7).
 
• Goalies Jet Vermeulen and Sydney Pope have split time for the Warriors this year with each playing in all 12 of ESU's games. Vermeulen is 7-1 with 19 saves, a .704 save percentage and a 1.36 GAA in 352:54 while Pope is 3-1 with 16 saves, a .696 save percentage and a 1.19 GAA.
