Rock women hit 17 PSAC marks at Ashland meet

Katie Plassio and Samantha Gilbert won events to lead The Rock women's track & field team to 17 PSAC qualifying marks and 16 top five finishes at the Ashland Invitational.

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team recorded 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, one NCAA provisional mark, two events wins and 16 top-five finishes at the Ashland Invitational Saturday at the Niss Athletic Center.
 
Kendall Grossman recorded the lone NCAA provisional mark of the day for The Rock women with a clearance of 3.70 meters in the pole vault, keeping her streak alive of hitting an NCAA mark in every competition so far this winter. She took second in the competition and was joined in sixth place by Allie Taylor with a clearance of 3.40 meters.
 
Slippery Rock picked up one win on the track and one in the field with the track victory coming in the 5,000-meter run courtesy of Katie Plassio. Plassio topped the field in 18:16.72 to lead Slippery Rock to a trio of top five finishes in the event. Ruthie Hughes took second in a PSAC qualifying time of 18:19.95 and Maddie Grillo was fifth in 19:32.51.
 
The field event win came from Samantha Gilbert, who topped the field in the long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters. Lydia Latimer also hit the PSAC standard to place fifth with a leap of 5.40 meters. Gilbert also tallied a PSAC mark in the 60-meter dash, where she was joined by Regan Johnson in the finals. Johnson took fifth in a season-best time of 7.77 seconds with Gilbert finishing seventh in 7.83 seconds.
 
Latimer also clocked a PSAC qualifying time in the 400-meter dash, where she finished third in a season-best time of 58.60 seconds. She was joined in the top five by Rachel Veneziano in 1:00.18. That twosome then closed out the day by teaming with Annasophia Stauffer and Lydia Reed to place third in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 4:01.48.
 
Anna Igims had one of the strongest performances of the day on the track with a runner-up finish in the mile after clocking a time of 5:00.28. Madison Murtland also met the PSAC standard in 11th place in 5:17.46. Murtland then closed out her day by also reaching a PSAC mark in the 800-meter run with a 10th place finish in 2:23.79.
 
Aleks Brozeski led a trio of SRU jumpers to top five finishes in the triple jump when she finished second with a leap of 10.70 meters. Katie Book was third at 10.35 meters and Marissa Seminick took fifth at 10.15 meters.
 
The Rock's throwers rounded out the top performances of the day with a total of five PSAC qualifying marks across two events, including four in the shot put. Sarah Corrie led the way with a third place finish and a toss of 13.51 meters. Olivia Heckman was fifth at 13.05 meters, followed by Becca Martin in sixth at 13.01 meters and Autumn Stewart in 10th at 12.05 meters. Tiffany Jolayemi rounded out the day with an eighth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.71 meters.
 
The Rock will return to Ohio again next Saturday for the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union.
