Morgan's Message Game
As part of SRU's season-long special events calendar, Friday's game will be dedicated towards mental health awareness. In an effort to emphasize the importance of mental health for student-athletes, the program is joining forces with the Morgan's Message organization.

Morgan's Message is a non-profit organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. Morgan's Message aims to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone.

Morgan's Message was created in honor of Morgan Rodgers, a former Duke Women's Lacrosse player who tragically lost her mental health battle and took her own life in 2019. Her friends and family joined together in 2020 on the 1st anniversary of her passing and wanted to turn their grief to empowerment to ensure that no athlete feels alone like Morgan did.

A member of the Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team will take part in a ceremonial pass back prior to the game. To read more about Morgan's Message, click HERE.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT

Slippery Rock opened its season by splitting two games at the Theresa Check Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Following a 2-0 season-opening loss to American International College, SRU rebounded to beat Maryville University 3-2 in a shootout.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME
53 of The Rock's 84 wins (63.1 percent) over the last 11 years have come at the friendly confines of Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Slippery Rock is a healthy 18-9 (.667) when hosting teams that compete outside of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference over the same stretch.

A year ago, SRU was a perfect 4-0 in non-conference home games.

RECENT ROCK HOME OPENERS
Slippery Rock is 6-4 in its first home games of the season over the last decade. Included in the six wins is an 8-0 victory against Frostburg State in 2019.

GOING FOR ANOTHER 3-1 START
Two wins this weekend would give Slippery Rock a 3-1 record to open the season for a second consecutive year. SRU had won at least three of its first four games just four times in the 32 years prior to 2022.

CONTI LEADS COMEBACK
The Rock's 3-2 victory against Maryville was highlighted by Gianna Conti, who scored two regulation goals to force overtime and an eventual shootout victory. SRU found itself trailing 2-0 just four minutes into the game before Conti ignited the rally with goals in the second and third quarters.

Now in her second season at The Rock after transferring from Belmont Abbey, Conti tallied eight points on four goals and one assist in her first year at SRU in 2022.

Conti is one of four active Rock athletes with multi-goal games over their careers along with Samantha Karmonick, Grace Maynard and Erin Roland.

SETTING UP THE ATTACK
Hilary Hoffman and Bailee Christman assisted on Conti's goals in the Maryville game. Hoffman's assist was her first collegiate point while Christman's was her fifth assist at SRU.

PEPPERING THE CAGE
Slippery Rock placed 22 of its 26 shots last weekend on target with Roland leading the way courtesy of six shots on goal. Christman (4), Leslie Colliver (4), Conti (3) and Hoffman (2) all compiled multiple shots on goal as well.

Overall, Slippery Rock averaged 11 shots on goal per game in addition to 6.5 penalty corners a contest in its first two contests of 2023.

THE ROCK DEFENSE
Goalkeeper Grace Burker began her third season as The Rock's starter by making 10 stops for a .714 save percentage and a 1.71 GAA. Burker's 5.0 saves per game leads the PSAC.

SRU's defense surrendered 14 total shots on goal and nine penalty corners in its first two games.

CONSISTENT STARTERS
Slippery Rock used a near identical starting lineup against both American International and Maryville of Burker, Christman, Colliver, Hoffman, Roland, Lacey Berghorn, Julia Boettler, Kayla Del Vecchio, Haley Metcalf and Madison Shomo with Megan Rude and Haylie Sucharski each tallying one start.

HOMEBODIES
Several current Rock athletes have saved their best performances for when they play at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Roland leads all active SRU athletes with 15 points over her career in home games via seven goals and one assist.

Christman has also recached the double-digit points threshold in home games with 12 on five goals and two assists over her 18 games played at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Del Vecchio (9 points, 2 G, 5 A), Colliver (8 points, 3 G, 2 A) and Karmonick (5 points, 1 G, 3 A) round out SRU's active leaders in points scored at home.

Burker is an even 9-9 over her career at home with 107 saves (5.9 per game) and 2.4 goals allowed a contest.

THE ROCK IN SHOOTOUTS
Since 2019, Slippery Rock is 2-1 in games that have gone to a shootout. In addition to SRU's win against Maryville last week, The Rock also downed Mercyhurst in shootout a season ago. The Rock's lone shootout loss over the last five years was a 2019 setback at Mansfield.
