SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock opened the PSAC portion of its 2023 schedule with a 3-0 loss to No. 3 West Chester Sept. 23 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Â
A LOOK AT SRU THROUGH 7 GAMES
In the first seven games of 2023, Slippery Rock has averaged 1.14 goals per game while placing 6.3 shots on goal per game and earning 4.4 penalty corners a contest.
Â
Defensively, SRU has surrendered 2.29 goals, 7.0 shots on goal and 6.7 penalty corners per game.
Â
The first half of games have proven to be The Rock's undoing early on this season. While SRU holds an even scoring margin in the final 30 minutes of games in 2023, teams have outscored Slippery Rock 11-3 in the opening two quarters.
Â
THE ROCK OFFENSE
Five Rock athletes have tallied goals this season with
Hilary Hoffman and
Gianna Conti leading the pack at two apiece followed by
Bailee Christman,
Erin Roland and
Grace Maynard with one score each.
Â
Hoffman has also passed out one assist for a team-high five points. Christman and
Haley Metcalf have accounted for SRU's other two assists.
Â
Just a freshman, Hoffman has also registered a team-high 11 shots on goal followed in the top five by Roland (9), Christman (7),
Kayla Del Vecchio (4) and
Leslie Colliver (4). Â
Â
ANCHORING THE DEFENSE
Goalkeeper
Grace Burker has played every second of The Rock's seven games this year. She has made 33 saves for a .673 save percentage to go with a 2.14 Goals Against Average. Burker's 4.7 saves per game rank second among all PSAC goalies.
Â
PREVIOUSLY VS. IUP
Three active Rock players have compiled at least one point against Indiana over their careers as Roland has one goal vs. IUP with Colliver and
Samantha Karmonick both tallying one assist.
Â
In three career starts against Indiana, Burker has made 17 saves (5.6 per game) while allowing 10 goals (3.33 per game).
Â
WINNING AWAY FROM HOME
A victory against IUP would be The Rock's third win of the season away from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Over the last 27 seasons, SRU has won more than three games in true away or neutral site games three times – 2017 (4), 2014 (4) and 2012 (4).
Â
GETTING GOING IN THE PSAC
A win Tuesday would also mark the first time since the 2017 season, and the second time in the last 10 years, in which Slippery Rock has earned at least one win through its first two league games of the season.
