SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University senior throwers John Eakin and Dalton Anderson closed their collegiate careers at the NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday evening at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Both of The Rock's national qualifiers came up just shy of earning All-America honors (top 12 in each event) with Eakin finishing 13th in the shot put finals and Anderson finishing 14th in the javelin finals.

Eakin was bumped from the 12th spot on the third and final attempt by the last thrower that could unseat him, moving him down to 13th in the final standings. He recorded a best throw of 17.29 meters (56'8 ¾"), coming up just three-quarters of an inch shy of the 12th and final All-America position.

Eakin will leave SRU as the program's all-time record holder in the shot put outdoor (17.95 meters). He won two PSAC titles with one indoor and one outdoor, was a two-time national qualifier and took home one All-America honor in 2022.

Anderson recorded his best throw in the javelin on his third and final attempt with a toss of 61.70 meters (202'5"), which was just shy of six feet short of the 12th and final All-America position.

Anderson will leave SRU as a two-time PSAC champion in the javelin and a two-time national qualifier at the Division II level. He earned two All-America awards in his career, including a Division III honor his undergraduate senior year at Westminster in 2021 and a Division II honor at SRU last spring in 2022.

"I'm really proud of both of these guys for their commitment to our program during their careers," said head coach Bill Jordan. "They were both leaders within our team and will leave SRU as two of the best we have ever had. We're really glad they got the chance to close out their careers together competing at nationals."

Saturday's national meet marked the final athletic event for Slippery Rock in the 2022-23 academic year.
