SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team picked up 11 points in two event finals on the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships Thursday from the William Lennox Track at SRU.

The Rock men sit third in the team standings with 11 points after the opening day of the three-day meet with two of the 21 total events in the books. The lone event finals that took place Thursday were the hammer throw and the 10,000-meter run and SRU scored in both.

Shippensburg picked up individual wins in both events to lead the team standings with 25 points. East Stroudsburg is second with 15 points, followed by Slippery Rock and Edinboro in a tie for third with 11 points. California (Pa.) sits fifth with eight points

The Rock got one All-PSAC (top three) performance on the opening day with
Joshua VanDeMark placing third in the hammer with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 56.82 meters to score six points for the team.
Brandon McCray also scored one point in eighth with a throw of 48.61 meters.
Zach Gose just missed a scoring spot in ninth with a throw of 48.54 meters.

The other points Thursday came from
Ethan Brentham with a fifth place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:56, scoring four points for the team.

The only other events contested Thursday were the first five events of the 10-event decathlon. Slippery Rock is well-represented in the top 10 going into Friday with three athletes in the mix.
Gavin Thomas leads the way in second place with 3,448 points.
Ethan Folmer sits eighth with 3,146 points and
Kyle Adams is 10th with 3,090 points.
