SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team recorded 32 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, three NCAA provisional marks and eight event wins at the John Papa Invitational hosted at SRU's William Lennox Track Thursday.

The meet featured 10 college teams and just shy of 500 total student-athletes for what was the second of four home meets this spring for Slippery Rock.

The highlights of the day all came in the field, where
John Eakin won the shot put with a season-best to improve on his NCAA qualifying mark,
Dan Hyatt won the pole vault with a career-best effort while reaching the NCAA provisional standard for the first time this spring and
Joshua VanDeMark won the hammer throw with a career-best effort while reaching the NCAA standard for the first time this spring.

Eakin took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 17.63 meters, improving on his previous season-best of 17.40 meters. That improvement moves Eakin up to No. 11 among all Division II throwers this spring.
Seaton Wozniak and
Joshua Rohland also both hit the PSAC mark in the event with Wozniak placing second with a throw of 15.59 meters and Rohland finishing sixth with a mark of 14.63 meters.

Hyatt won the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 4.82 meters, right on the NCAA provisional standard. That effort moves Hyatt to the No. 1 spot in the PSAC this spring and moves him from 45th up to 28th on the Division II list.
Jakob Graff also recorded a PSAC mark in the pole vault with a fifth place finish and a clearance of 4.21 meters.

VanDeMark took the top honor in the hammer throw to lead Slippery Rock to four top five places in the event. His mark of 57.42 meters is a career-best and NCAA provisional mark that moved him up to No. 29 on the Division II list.
Brandon McCray was second with a throw of 51.29 meters, while Rohland was third at 48.52 meters and
Zach Gose was fifth at 44.73 meters.

SRU also picked up three more PSAC marks in the throws with
Josh Kingerski finishing third in the javelin (54.47 meters), Wozniak placing fourth in the discus (43.77 meters) and Gose finishing fifth in the discus (42.93 meters).

The Rock swept the top four places in the long jump and recorded seven PSAC marks in the two horizontal jumps combined.
Zack Duda took the top spot in the long jump with a leap of 6.96 meters and finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.90 meters.
Ethan Folmer was second in the long jump with a mark of 6.85 meters, followed by
Mason Reed in third with a leap of 6.81 meters and
Gavin Thomas in fourth with a leap of 6.70 meters.
Taye Lynch led the way in the triple jump with a second place finish and a leap of 14.32 meters.
Ian James took fourth with a mark of 13.74 meters.

Slippery Rock cruised to a win in the 4x100-meter relay to open the day on the track with
Kadin Johnson,
AJ Virata,
Matthew Crow and
Cam Lindsey combining to post a time of 41.44 seconds. It kicked off a strong day in the sprints and hurdles for The Rock with Virata leading the way.
Virata won the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 10.62 seconds and then took second in the 200-meter dash in 21.67 seconds while running into a headwind. He was joined by two other SRU runners in dipping below 11.00 seconds in the 100m with
Kanye Thompson finishing third with a season-best of 10.76 seconds and Johnson taking sixth in 10.90 seconds.

Slippery Rock had a strong showing the 800-meter run with three runners clocking times of 1:55 or faster.
Shannon Dooley won the event after leading wire-to-wire in 1:53.62.
Devon Navaroli was third in 1:55.21 and
Ryan Corbitt posted a career-best effort of 1:55.87 to place fourth. SRU's distance runners capped the day by winning the 5,000-meter run with
John Juszynski and the 10,000-meter run with
Ethan Brentham.

Crow led the way in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93 seconds in the prelims before posting a third place finish in 15.06 seconds in the finals.
Brenden Lewis ran 15.25 seconds in the prelims and took fifth in the final in 15.60 seconds and
Jack Keenan also hit the PSAC standard in 12th place in 15.73 seconds.

Cade Adams led SRU to three personal bests and qualifying marks in the 400-meter hurdles when he took fourth in 56.05 seconds. Keenan followed in 57.96 seconds in 10th place and
Darien Malawi was 11th in 58.40 seconds.

Slippery Rock will have a rare weekend off this weekend before returning to action next Saturday, April 29, at West Virginia University's WVU Invite.
