MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team closed its spring break trip with a second place finish at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational that wrapped up Saturday from Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

The Rock were the only non-Division I team in the top five of the final team standings and took second overall with 78 points, trailing champion Duke University's 100-point total by 22 points. Mount Saint Mary's was third with 65 points, followed by Coastal Carolina with 65 points and Virginia Military Academy (VMI) in fifth with 58 points. A total of 30 different teams recorded points in the three-day competition.

Slippery Rock finished the meet with 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and three NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

All three of the NCAA marks came in throwing events and involved top two finishes.
John Eakin won the shot put with a toss of 17.14 meters to lead a 1-2 sweep for SRU.
Joshua Gose was second with a toss of 16.70 meters to give SRU two NCAA marks and 18 points in the event. The other NCAA mark came in the javelin, where
Dalton Anderson took second with a throw of 63.53 meters.

SRU finished the meet with a total of 10 PSAC marks in the throwing events.
Seaton Wozniak joined Eakin and Gose in scoring in the shot put with a seventh place finish and a toss of 14.83 meters.
Joshua Rohland was ninth with a throw of 14.03 meters. Gose led the way in the discus with a fourth place finish and a toss of 45.55 meters. Wozniak was sixth with a mark of 44.89 meters and
Zach Gose, the younger brother of Joshua, was eighth with a toss of 43.78 meters. The other PSAC marks came in the hammer, where
Joshua VanDeMark led the way in sixth place with a throw of 52.52 meters.
Brandon McCray took 10th with a mark of 48.29 meters.

Slippery Rock also got one more PSAC mark in the field with
Bryan Dworek placing 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.86 meters.

Kyle Adams led four SRU multi-event athletes in the decathlon with a second place finish with 5,378 points.
Ethan Folmer was fourth with 4,884 points, followed by
Jack Keenan in fifth with 4,833 points and
James Amodei in seventh with 3,913 points. Adams also hit the PSAC mark in the 110-meter hurdles during the competition with a time of 16.18 seconds.

The Rock got three other PSAC marks in the hurdle races on the track, led by
Matthew Crow in ninth place in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.83 seconds.
Brenden Lewis was 16th in the high hurdles in 15.34 seconds. The other PSAC mark came in the 400-meter hurdles from
Cade Adams in 10th place in 57.24 seconds.

Devon Navaroli was the highest finishing SRU runner on the track when he took second in the 5,000-meter run in 15:14.30.

The final PSAC mark on the track came from
Kadin Johnson, who was 11th in the 400-meter dash in 50.32 seconds. Johnson also teamed with
Cam Lindsey, Crow and Dworek to place fourth in the 4x100-meter relay in 42.29 seconds.

Slippery Rock will take next weekend off before hosting the first of four home meets this spring with the Dave Labor Invitational set for April 1.
