NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team took first place in the team race and
Anna Igims won the individual title Saturday at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by SRU at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

The Rock cruised to the win in the team standings with 41 total points to top a field of 13 complete teams at the meet. Division I Youngstown State was second with 69 points, followed by the Penn State Club team in third with 119 points. Geneva was fourth with 133 points and West Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the top five with 176 points.

Igims covered the 6,000-meter course in 21:34 to win the race by 18 seconds over the second place finisher from Geneva.

Ruthie Hughes took fourth in 22:24, followed by
Katie Plassio in ninth in 22:56,
Chelsea Hunt in 10th in 23:12 and
Madison Murtland in 18th in 23:37.

The Rock's top seven were capped by
Maddie Grillo in 20th in 23:44 and
Jennifer Cichra in 23rd in 23:48.

A total of 150 women completed the course, which was being run for the first time after SRU made layout changes from last year's course. Igims' time of 21:34 will stand as the official course record for the 6,000-meter course.

Saturday's meet marked the final tuneup for Slippery Rock before championship season begins in two weeks. The Rock will rest next weekend before traveling to Bloomsburg Oct. 21 for the PSAC Championships.
