BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team recorded its highest finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships since 2008 with a runner-up showing Saturday at the 2023 PSAC XC Championships hosted by Bloomsburg University.

Shippensburg put four runners in the top five to come away with the team title with 26 points. Slippery Rock placed three runners in the top seven as the Raiders and The Rock occupied all seven of the top individual places in the race. SRU posted a team score of 65 points to finish second, marking its highest finish since also taking second in 2008. Indiana (Pa.) was a distant third with 105 points, followed by East Stroudsburg in fourth with 176 points and California (Pa.) in fifth with 180 points to cap the top five.
A total of 16 complete teams tallied a score and 144 individuals finished the 8,000-meter course.

All five of Slippery Rock's scorers came away with All-PSAC honors with
Ethan Brentham,
Joseph Cintavey and
Troy Hart all being named to first team All-PSAC honors and
Devon Navaroli and
Michael Novak being named to second team honors. The top 15 finishers are named to the first team, while finishers 16-30 are named to the second team.

Brentham led the way for SRU with a career-best finish of third place overall after covering the course in 26:08. It marked his second straight first team All-PSAC honor in cross country. The grad student also took home some more hardware Saturday when he was named the PSAC Champion Scholar award winner, an honor given to the athlete with the highest grade point average in the meet. Brentham earned his undergraduate degree in health and physical education with a 4.0 GPA with more than 140 credit hours.

Cintavey followed in sixth place overall in 26:24, marking his highest career finish as well. He was a second team All-PSAC honoree while competing for Shippensburg last year before transferring to SRU for grad school.

Hart picked up his second straight first team All-PSAC award with a seventh place finish after covering the course in 26:24, marking his second straight top 10 finish.

Devon Navaroli earned his third career All-PSAC honor with a 20th place finish in 27:12 and
Michael Novak earned his first career award with a 29th place showing in 27:31 to finish as The Rock's fifth and final scorer.

Brady Hoffman was 48th in 28:12 and
Tucker Davis was 67th in 28:34 to round out the top seven finishers for SRU.

The Rock will now shift their focus to attempting to qualify for the National Championships as a team. SRU entered this week ranked No. 3 in the latest Atlantic Region rankings. The top three teams at the Atlantic Region Championships Nov. 4 at Lock Haven will earn team trips to nationals.
