ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University track and field teams swept the hammer throws at the Behrend Invitational Sunday at Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania with
Jena Reinheimer and
Joshua VanDeMark picking up wins.
Â
The majority of the Slippery Rock track and field teams competed Thursday at The Rock's home meet, but the hammer throw was not contested at that meet, so SRU sent a select group of hammer throwers to Erie Sunday to compete in just one event.
Â
Reinheimer won the women's hammer with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying effort of 47.42 meters.
Tiffany Jolayemi took second with a PSAC mark of 47.15 meters.
Rachel Hutchinson was fourth at 41.44 meters, just off the PSAC standard of 42.00 meters.
Natasha Davis took fifth at 38.19 meters and
Mikayla Cline rounded out the SRU athletes in sixth place at 37.81 meters. Â
Â
VanDeMark took the top spot in the men's hammer with a PSAC qualifying throw of 48.59 meters.
Brandon McCray was second with a PSAC mark of 45.76 meters.
Joe Patterson took fourth with a toss of 37.98 meters to round out the SRU men.
Â
Slippery Rock will now shift its focus to back-to-back meets at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia the next two weeks. The Rock will compete at the Mountaineer Twilight Meet April 30 and the WVU Last Chance Meet May 6-7 as final tune-ups before the PSAC Championships May 12-14 at Millersville University.
