Lacrosse to host Edinboro Tuesday

Slippery Rock will look for a second straight PSAC West win when Edinboro visits Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team will host Edinboro University Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Slippery Rock enters the game with a 4-2 overall record and a 1-1 PSAC mark after posting a 12-7 upset win over No. 18 Seton Hill Saturday. Edinboro is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play and is coming off a 23-0 defeat Saturday against Gannon.  

ROCK PICKS UP WIN OVER RANKED OPPONENT
Slippery Rock upset No. 18 Seton Hill 12-7 Saturday for the program's first win over a ranked-opponent since a 7-4 win over No. 22 Tiffin in the 2019 season opener, March 1, 2019. it was the first win over a top-20 ranked opponent since a 16-15 win at No. 19 Indiana (Pa.) March 28, 2018.

Slippery Rock owns a 14-0 advantage in the all-time series against Edinboro that dates back to 2009. The Rock have scored 10 or more goals in 12 of the 14 meetings in the series and are 7-0 both home and away.

Slippery Rock outscored Edinboro 10-1 in the second half to pull away for a 19-7 win on the road at Edinboro last spring. The Rock fired 51 shots in the game and posted advantages of 51-14 in shots, 28-13 in ground balls and 18-9 in draw controls. Molly Buettner scored four goals and handed out two assists to lead the SRU attack. Emily Benham added five assists and Jamie DiCarlo scored three goals and handed out two assists. Gillian O'Rourke made six saves in goal. Edinboro got three goals and one assist from Sophie Depalma and 20 saves from Christina Clutter.

ROCK RECEIVES VOTES IN NATIONAL POLL
Slippery Rock was one of 10 teams just outside the top 25 that received votes in this week's Division II national poll released Monday by the IWLCA. The Rock are one of five PSAC teams listed in the poll. No. 5 West Chester and No. 8 East Stroudsburg lead the way, while No. 22 Seton Hill is the lone PSAC West team in the top 25. SRU and IUP were both listed as receiving votes this week after both squads posted upset wins over Seton Hill last week. Updated national rankings available HERE.
 
SCOUTING THE ROCK
Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 80-53 and outshooting the opposition 198-135. SRU has also posted advantages of 100-57 in draw controls, 69-62 in caused turnovers and 124-122 in ground balls.
 
Emily Benham leads the attack with 13 goals and 11 assists, seven of which came Saturday against Seton Hill. Jamie DiCarlo (10g, 10a), Katie Dlugosz (10g, 6a) and Brooke Kelly (12g, 1a) also have double-digit points on the year. Kelly is coming off a six-goal performance Saturday against Seton Hill. Charleigh Rondeau (5g, 5a) leads the team with 61 draw controls, ranking third in the nation in the draw circle.
 
SRU has 13 different players with at least two goals on the year, including Camryn Whipple (5g, 3a), Molly Buettner (2g, 4a), Eryn Little (6g), Brooke Wisniewski (5g), Rachel Mahoney (4g, 1a) and Emily Mox (3g, 2a).
 
Taylor Baiers leads the defense with 13 caused turnovers, while Sara Danowski has 11.
 
Gillian O'Rourke is 4-2 in goal with a 9.42 goals against average and a .485 save percentage.  
 
BENHAM SETS SINGLE-GAME ASSISTS RECORD
Emily Benham is coming off an SRU single-game record Saturday against Seton Hill after she handed out seven assists in a 12-7 win. That topped the former record of six assists that was set by Chynna Chan in 2014 and matched by Kaytlin Callaghan in 2015.
 
MILESTONE AND RECORD BOOK WATCH
Emily Benham became the 15th player in SRU history to reach 100 career points with seven points Saturday against Seton Hill bringing her career total to 102 points, which ranks tied for 14th all-time at SRU. Her seven assists give her 37 for her career and move her up to No. 8 all-time at The Rock. Charleigh Rondeau ranks sixth all-time at SRU in draw controls with 142 and is averaging just over 10 per game this spring. She is 10 away from moving up to No. 4 all-time at SRU and will then set her sights on the top three, with No. 3 in the SRU record book currently sitting at 183 draw controls (Erin Wilcox, 2013-16).

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
Edinboro is being outscored 59-18 and outshot 134-58 through five games. Opponents also own advantages of 63-29 in draw controls, 112-70 in ground balls and 60-45 in caused turnovers.
 
Kandyce Graham leads the team in scoring with six goals. Traci Culver has four goals, Maggie Anderson has three goals and Lexi Boyk has two goals and one assist to cap the players with multiple points. Boyk also leads the team with 10 draw controls and nine caused turnovers.
 
Kaitlyn Binotto has played 255 minutes in goal and is 1-3 with an 11.76 goals against average and a .490 save percentage. Christina Clutter is 0-1 with a 12.00 goals against average and a .308 save percentage in 45 minutes of work.
