MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Slippery Rock University men's outdoor track and field team recorded five Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference automatic qualifying marks and 17 top 10 finishes at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge that wrapped up Saturday evening from Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
 
The outdoor season-opener was hit by challenging weather midway through the opening day Friday that continued throughout competition Saturday. Cold temperatures, wind and rain created conditions that made competing at a high level difficult and resulted in many athletes scratching out of events Saturday.
 
The Rock picked up two PSAC automatic qualifying marks in the javelin before the weather turned south Friday. Dalton Anderson took fourth with a throw of 54.03 meters, while Dylan Close was fifth with a mark of 53.48 meters. Josh Kingerski was sixth at 51.60 meters, just off the PSAC qualifying mark of 52.00 meters.
 
Brenden Lewis recorded a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdle finals after posting a PSAC automatic qualifying time of 15.89 seconds in the prelims.
 
AJ Virata recorded a PSAC mark in the 100-meter dash with a seventh place showing in a time of 11.12 seconds. Bryan Dworek was 10th in 11.17 seconds, just off the PSAC standard of 11.15 seconds. Dworek did record a PSAC mark in the long jump, where he placed eighth with a leap of 6.61 meters.
 
The Rock got top five finishes from Cade Adams and Cade Gratzmiller in the 400-meter hurdles with Adams placing third in 59.28 seconds and Gratzmiller following in fifth in 59.58 seconds.
 
SRU also got a third place finish from Zack Duda in the high jump with a clearance of 1.83 meters and third place showing from Jason Goodman in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.81 meters.
 
Slippery Rock will stay in Myrtle Beach training over the next week while the University is on spring break. The Rock will then compete March 17-19 at the Shamrock Invitational.
