PITTSBURG, Kan. – Slippery Rock University senior high jumper Cecily Greggs earned her first career All-America honor with a 12th place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships Friday evening at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.

Greggs, a senior from Stoneboro, Pennsylvania, was making her first career appearance at a National Championship and picked up her first career All-America honor with a 12th place finish, earning second team All-America recognition from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The top eight finishers in each event at nationals are named first team All-Americans by the USTFCCCA, while finishers 9-12 are recognized as second team All-Americans.

"I'm really proud of Cecily and thrilled she gets to add the title of All-American to her list of accomplishments," said Bill Jordan, SRU assistant coach. "Cecily has been so consistent over her whole career and this is just a terrific way for her to end the indoor portion of that career."

Greggs becomes the first indoor All-American for Slippery Rock since Courtney McQuaide earned the honor in the pole vault during the 2018-19 season. The All-America plaudit is the seventh indoor honor in the high jump for The Rock, as Greggs joins three-time honoree Whitney Hendershot (2008, 2009, 2011), two-time honoree Ashley West (2013, 2016) and one-time honoree Paige Kassab (2016).

To pick up the All-America award, Greggs needed to clear a height of 1.70 meters (5' 7"). She easily cleared the opening height of 1.62 meters on her first attempt, but needed all three attempts to get over the second height, 1.67 meters. Her third and final attempt was good to send her through to the third bar of the competition with 12 other competitors.

Greggs again needed all three attempts at 1.70 meters, but cleared the bar on her final attempt to lock up the 12th place finish. She had three good attempts at 1.73 meters (5' 8"), but narrowly missed to bow out of the competition.

Arika Robinson of Concordia-St. Paul won the event with a clearance of 1.82 meters (5' 11 ½").

Greggs was the lone representative from Slippery Rock at the indoor national meet. She will leave directly from Kansas to join the rest of her teammates in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where The Rock opened the outdoor season today and will compete tomorrow and again next weekend.
