Rock set for non-conference game at Ursuline

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning-streak to three with a non-conference victory over Ursuline 2 p.m. Saturday in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will look to extend its winning-streak to three with a non-conference victory over Ursuline College 2 p.m. Saturday in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. URSULINE
Slippery Rock holds a 2-1 lead over Ursuline in the all-time series dating back to just 2011. The Rock will look for its first road win against the Arrows as its only loss to UC was an 86-65 decision in Pepper Pike, Ohio Nov. 9, 2013.
 
LAST MEETING
Jamiyah Johnson scored 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to help Slippery Rock rally back from a 15-point deficit and complete a 68-64 comeback win over Ursuline in The Rock's home opener Nov. 17, 2021 at Morrow Field House.

QUICK HITS
• Slippery Rock defeated Notre Dame College by its largest margin of the season (76-63) Wednesday in South Euclid, Ohio.
 
• SRU has now posted three consecutive games with at least one player scoring 20 points in Deleah Gibson (25 points vs. NDC), Bella Long (24 points vs. Davis & Elkins) and Isabellah Middleton (23 points vs. NDC and 20 points vs. Lincoln). 
 
• Kennedy Middleton has shown her dominance to start the 2022-23 season as she has recorded back-to-back double-double performances with a 17-point, 10-rebound game versus D&E and a 17-point, 16-rebound showing against NDC. Middleton is currently tied for sixth among all Division II in double-doubles.
 
• Slippery Rock exhibited its best shooting performance of the season against NDC as it shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) over the first half and ended the contest shooting 49.2 percent (30-of-61) overall.
 
SHINING SENIORS
The senior duo of Gibson and Kennedy Middleton have made their mark as two of The Rock's leaders early in the season. Gibson enters the weekend shooting 48.8 percent (20-of-41) from the floor in addition to having 15.7 points, 2.0 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Kennedy Middleton currently has a 48.5 percent (16-of-33) field goal percentage while tallying 16.7 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.0 spg.
 
A LOOK AROUND THE ROCK ROSTER
Joining Gibson and Kennedy Middleton as Rock players to average double-digit points are Bella Long and Isabellah Middleton.
 
Long, Slippery Rock's leading 3-point threat, averages 13.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.5 apg and 1.0 spg in addition to shooting 53.3 percent from the floor overall and 50 percent from long range.
 
Isabellah Middleton enters Saturday's contest with a team-high 19.0 ppg to go along with 9.0 rpg, 2.3 apg and 2.0 spg. She has now registered at least 20 points in two of SRU's three games.
 
Rounding out Slippery Rock's leaders are Kelley McKnight (6.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Kristina Donza (3.0 ppg, 1.3 rpg), Alyssa Gillin (2.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg), Arianna Mitchell (2.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg), Jada Ward (1.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg) and Emily Venick (2.7 apg, 1.0 rpg).
 
SOLID FIRST QUARTER STATS
The Rock has shown to score most efficiently in the first period over its three games. Overall SRU has outscored its opponents by a +25 margin (64-39) in the opening quarter. This has included a +7 margin over Lincoln, +10 over Davis & Elkins and +8 over Notre Dame.
 
Slippery Rock has also been able to produce strong runs out of the first quarter having gone on a 9-0 run against LU, 15-0 over D&E and 7-0 against NDC.
 
STRONG START TO THE SEASON
Slippery Rock has started the 2022-23 season with a 2-1 record. The Rock has now begun with a winning record through their first three games in back-to-back seasons and just the second time overall since 2016-17 when they also went 2-1. Additionally, a win over Ursuline would mark just the second season in which SRU started 3-1 since the 2016-17.
 
AROUND THE PSAC
As a team, Slippery Rock enters the weekend ranking among the top seven in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in six categories. SRU is tied for third in 3-pointers per game (8.0), fourth in 3-point percentage (37.5), fourth in defensive rpg (28.0), sixth in ppg (71.5) and seventh in both field goal percentage (41.8) and rpg (40.3).
 
Individually, four players rank in the top five in at least one category among the PSAC West.

SCOUTING THE ARROWS
Last time out: Ursuline earned a 65-48 home-opening win over Lake Superior State University Thursday in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
 
Leading the way for the Arrows is Alyssa Evans who is the lone Ursuline player to average double-digit points with 18.3 to go along with 1.7 rpg, 2.7 apg and 1.7 spg. Setting the pace for UC in rebounding is Madison Cloonan who averages 7.3 rpg as well as 6.0 ppg, 1.0 apg and 1.0 spg.
 
In Slippery Rock and Ursuline's meeting a season ago, Cloonan scored a team-high 23 points to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and two assists while Evans tallied 10 points, five assists, two rebounds and one steal.
 
As a team, Ursuline has shot 34.8 percent from the field overall, 20.9 percent from 3-point range and 79.1 percent from the foul line while scoring 60.7 ppg. The Arrows have grabbed 34.3 rpg while dishing out 9.7 apg and forcing its opponents into 19.7 turnovers per contest.
