SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will play its toughest opponent to date when it hosts No. 3 Shippensburg University 6 p.m. Friday at the Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION DAY
The Rock field hockey team has been fortunate enough to have Keshia Booker, Assistant Director of Multicultural Development at Slippery Rock University, speak to the team about the importance of diversity and inclusion this season and as such helped inspire this year's edition of the field hockey team's Diversity and Inclusion Day.
 
This day will showcase the strengths of the Slippery Rock campus, with a particular focus placed on how diversity and inclusion enrich The Rock community. SRU field hockey is excited to promote the diverse, unique stories and accomplishments of the campus community prior to the game.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock won its second consecutive game in a convincing 5-0 victory at home Oct. 2 over Wingate University. Erin Roland led The Rock in the win with two goals and one assist.
 
BEST 8-GAME START IN 30 YEARS
The Rock's current 5-3 record is tied for the best eight-game start to a season by a Rock team in the last 30 years. The 1998, 2012, 2017 and 2018 teams all went 5-3 as well. The overall program record for SRU's best record through the opening eight games of the season is 7-0-1 in 1976.  
 
WALLACE UP TO 5TH ON WINS LIST
The Rock's win over Wingate moved head coach Rayell Wallace's career record to 12-12. The 12 victories already rank Wallace fifth on Slippery Rock's career wins list. She is now four wins away from moving into a tie with Tricia Sterling (1998-01), who won 16 games over four seasons, for fourth place.  
 
SCORING AT A HISTORIC RATE
· Through eight games Slippery Rock has scored 23 goals, which is the highest eight-game goal output by a Rock team over the last 46 years and the fifth highest in program history overall behind only the 1976 (31), 1973 (28), 1975 (27) and 1974 (26) teams.
 
· Were the season to end today, SRU's 2.9 goals per game average would go down as the fourth highest average in program history – one must once again go back to the 70's for higher averages as Rock teams averaged 3.6 gpg in 1975, 3.5 in 1973 and 3.2 in 1974.
 
· For context on how impressive SRU's scoring has been this year, entering Friday's games there are only six other teams in all Division II (35 teams total) that average more goals per game.
 
· Slippery Rock is on pace to end the season with 49 goals which would easily break the program record for goals scored in a single-year – 43 in 1975.

· Slippery Rock has scored at least two goals in a game in six of its eight games this year.
 
· SRU has failed to record five or more shots on goal in just one game this season.

THE ROCK OFFENSE
Roland enters the Shippensburg game as The Rock's leader in points with 12 on five goals and two assists.
 
Christman and Leslie Colliver are tied for second on the team in total points at nine apiece as Christman has scored four goals and distributed one assist while Colliver has posted three goals and three assists thus far.
 
Conti (3), Karmonick (2) and Megan Rude (2) have all scored multiple goals for SRU as well while Del Vecchio, Metcalf, Irving and Ross have one goal each. Del Vecchio is also The Rock's leader in assists with five, the third highest total in the PSAC.
 
DENHAM MAKES DEBUT
The final player on Slippery Rock's 2022 roster that was yet to play in a college game made their debut recently as backup freshman goalkeeper Kathryn Denham played the entire second half of the Wingate game, making two saves to combine with Burker for SRU's first shutout of the year.
 
THE ROCK DEFENSE
Burker has played all but one half this season to lead The Rock's defense. She has been the goalie of record for all eight games while making 46 saves on a .742 save percentage in addition to holding a 2.13 goals against average. Burker is third in the PSAC in saves per game (5.75) and fifth in save percentage.
 
Denham serves as Burker's backup while Addy Ross has one defensive save to round out SRU's defensive leaders.
 
ROCK UP TO 5TH IN CORNERS
After earning 20 penalty corners against Wingate, Slippery Rock now ranks fifth in the nation corners per game at 11.75.
 
WINS vs. NATIONALLY RANKED TEAMS
Since the 2010 season, Slippery Rock has won nine games against nationally ranked teams. The Rock's previous wins against nationally ranked teams include victories against Kutztown (2017 / No. 5), West Chester (2017 / No. 3), East Stroudsburg (2014 / No. 5), Bloomsburg (2013 / No. 7), Indiana (2011 / No. 6, 2010 / No. 7, 2010 / No. 8) and LIU Post (2010 / No. 5).

51 of The Rock's 79 wins (.646) over the last decade have come at the friendly confines of Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. So far this season, Slippery Rock is 3-1 at home via wins over Franklin Pierce, Lincoln Memorial and Wingate with the loss coming to East Stroudsburg, which was ranked third in the country at the time of the game.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Shippensburg, which has won four of the last five Division II national championships, has won its first seven games of the season by averaging 3.9 goals per game while allowing just 1.0 goals per game.
 
Agus Garibaldi is tied for the PSAC lead in total points with 21 on eight goals and five assists. Tess Jedeloo and Valu Paul have added eight and five goals, respectively, while Maura Mears has distributed six assists.
 
Goalkeeper Lindsay Tripodo has logged the majority of minutes for Shippensburg this year (396:40-of-448:12). She ranks second in the nation in GAA (0.76) and seventh in save percentage (.815).
 
Most recently, Shippensburg earned a 1-0 victory over No. 2 East Stroudsburg University.
