BOUNCE-BACK GAME ON DECK?
The last three times Slippery Rock lost its season opener (2013, 2015, 2019) it has followed up with a victory in the second contest of the year.
Â
ROLAND GETS ON THE BOARD
One of the highlights of The Rock's game against Lindenwood was
Erin Roland, who scored her first collegiate goal in the loss with a strike off of a penalty corner in the third quarter. Roland finished the opener with two total shots. She is the eighth Rock freshman to score in a season-opening game over the last 14 years.
Â
ISNER WITH THE ASSIST
Jordyn Isner registered her first career assist when she provided the entry pass on Roland's goal.
Â
NEW BLOOD
In all, nine of the 15 players that appeared in Slippery Rock's season-opener were playing in their first official contests including Roland,
Grace Burker,
Baliee Christman,
Samantha Karmonick,
Katelyn Sparks,
Nadia Irving and
Gabriella Delcoco who all started the game.
Leslie Colliver and
Haley Metcalf saw playing time as reserves.
Â
BURKER GETS THE STARTING NOD
Burker became just the second freshman goalkeeper dating back to the 2008 season to start a Rock season-opener; Alexandra Kirsch started the 2011 season against American International as a rookie. Burker made seven saves while playing all four quarters in her debut. Â
Â
ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK
In addition to Roland's goal, SRU's offensive attack against Lindenwood saw the always-dangerous
Jessie Trube tally four shots while Sparks took two attempts with Christman, Karmonick and
Kayla Del Vecchio posting one attempt apiece.
Â
RETURNING EXPERIENCE vs. QUEENS
Courtney Page is the lone member of The Rock's 2021 roster that played in SRU's 2017 two-gal victory against Queens. Page came off the bench to compile four total shots, three of which were on goal, in the win.
Â
ROCK SOLID vs. NON-PSAC SCHOOLS
Dating back to the 2010 season, Slippery Rock holds a commanding 26-12 (.684) record against non-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams.
Â
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
44 of The Rock's 68 wins (64.7 percent) over the last decade have come at the friendly confines of Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Slippery Rock is a healthy 13-8 (.619) when hosting teams that compete outside of the PSAC over the same stretch.
