SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Head coach Rayell Heistand has announced the Slippery Rock University field hockey program's special events calendar, which features an array of notable celebrations, tributes and commemorations for the 2021 season.

All nine of The Rock's home games this season will coincide with a designated special event starting with Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day for SRU's Sept. 2 home opener against Lindenwood and running through First Responders Day on Oct. 27 against Seton Hill.

Additionally, SRU will also be holding a skills clinic on Sept. 5 prior to its contest against Queens University as part of its Friends in Field Hockey Day. The clinic is for athletes entering grades 5-12 and will be conducted at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium beginning with check in at 8:30 a.m. at a cost of $30. Attendees can register for the clinic HERE.

There is no admission fee for any Slippery Rock field hockey home game.

Below is a breakdown of all nine special events on the 2021 Slippery Rock field hockey calendar.

Sept. 2 (5 p.m.) vs. Lindenwood - Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day
As a way of showing appreciation for all of the hard-working faculty and staff at SRU, and in an effort to strengthen the bonds with all employees within the campus community, Slippery Rock field hockey is extending an invitation to all employees and their families to attend its season-opener on Sept. 2 against Lindenwood.

Sept. 5 (2 p.m.) vs. Queens – Friends in Field Hockey Day
Friends in Field Hockey Day will be a day-long event as The Rock's coaches and student-athletes will first host the aforementioned skills clinic in the morning followed by SRU's game against Queens University at 2 p.m. All attendees of the clinic, as well as any and all local club and high school field hockey teams, are invited to be special guests of Slippery Rock at the game.

Those wishing to attend the skills clinic can register HERE.

Sept. 11 (11 a.m.) vs. Belmont Abbey – Alumni Day
Rock field hockey alumni are invited to return to Slippery Rock for Alumni Day against Belmont Abbey and stay for a team-sponsored tailgate party that evening prior to SRU's football game against East Stroudsburg.

Any interested alumni are asked to RSVP HERE by no later than Sept. 6.

Sept. 19 (2 p.m.) vs. Indiana (Pa.) - International Students Day
Invaluable members of the Slippery Rock University community, all of SRU's more than 100 international students are invited to come and be recognized as part of International Students Day on Sept. 19 against Indiana University (Pa.).

Sept. 25 (Noon) vs. West Chester – Mental Health Awareness Day
In what has been a trying time worldwide, the SRU field hockey program has embraced mental health awareness thanks in part to Dr. John Mathe, an assistant professor / counselor at SRU, who has played a valuable role in working with the program on mental health and team culture.

In an on-going effort to help promote and normalize mental health awareness, both in athletics and society as a whole, SRU field hockey will be hosting Mental Health Awareness Day on Sept. 25 in conjunction with its game versus West Chester.

Oct. 2 (11 a.m.) vs. Millersville – Diversity and Inclusion Day
The Rock field hockey team has been fortunate enough to have Dr. Cindy LaCom, Director of Gender Studies at Slippery Rock University, speak to the team about the importance of diversity and inclusion on several occasions and as such helped inspire Diversity and Inclusion Day on Oct. 2.

This day will showcase the strengths of the Slippery Rock campus, with a particular focus placed on how diversity and inclusion enrich The Rock community. SRU field hockey is excited to promote the diverse, unique stories and accomplishments of the campus community as part of its Oct. 2 game against Millersville.

Oct. 6 (4 p.m.) vs. Mansfield – Make-A-Wish Day
An annual event for the SRU field hockey program over the last five years, Slippery Rock will once again be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. To date, Slippery Rock field hockey has collected over $2,000 for the organization since it began hosting it's "Make-A-Wish Game".

Oct. 23 (2 p.m.) vs. Bloomsburg - Senior Day
Prior to The Rock's game against Bloomsburg, SRU's 2021 senior class of Lauren Marks, Hannah Nurse, Courtney Page, Haley Plitt, Holly Stiller and Jessie Trube will be recognized for their contributions to the program over their distinguished careers.

Oct. 27 (4 p.m.) vs. Seton Hill – First Responders Day
