Â
THIRD TIME IS A CHARM
Tuesday's match marks the third time this season that Seton Hill and The Rock will have met. SHU took the first two contests 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-16) and 3-1 (14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19).
Erica Selfridge averaged 7.0 kills and 15.0 digs over the two contests while
Lauren Crytzer averaged 5.0 kills and 2.5 blocks versus the Griffins with Wheeler tallying five kills in both matches. Â
Â
GETTING FAMILIAR WITH 5 SETS
The Kutztown match represented The Rock's seventh five-set match of the season. Three of SRU's wins this season have come in those matches. The seven five-set contests this year are the most by a Rock team since the 2011 team played in eight such matches.
Â
CAREER DAYS FOR CHIZMAR AND CRYTZER
The win against Kutztown featured career-making performances from
Alayna Chizmar and Crytzer. Chizmar posted new personal-bests of 16 kills and four blocks while Crytzer set a career-high in blocks at six to go with seven kills on an impressive .278 attack percentage.
Â
Both Chizmar and Crytzer have enjoyed career-years in 2021. Chizmar is third on the team with 127 kills all the while adding 10 aces, 138 digs and 12 blocks. Crytzer leads The Rock, and ranks fourth in the PSAC West in blocks at 51, to go with 79 kills.
Â
ACES A PLENTY
One of the many keys to The Rock's victory vs. Kutztown was the team's serving performance that featured four players combining for 14 aces, SRU's fourth-highest total over the last 13 years.
Â
Lauren Weber and
Peytan Gullickson tied for the team-lead with four aces while
Kate Lachendro had three followed by
Taylor Fellers with two and Selfridge with one.
Â
Lachendro leads SRU on the season with 28 aces with Selfridge (19) and Fellers (16) also in double digits. Weber, who missed a large portion of the year due to injury, is returning to form with six aces over The Rock's last three matches.
Â
BLOCK PARTY
Capping off the Kutztown win was an 11-block showing from Slippery Rock in what was the team's second highest rejection total of the year.
Â
Supplementing Crytzer's and Chizmar's aforementioned block totals were
Mary Berger (5),
Abigail Koeller (3) and Wheeler (2). Â
Â
Five Rock players have at least 20 total blocks on the season overall in Crytzer (5 solo / 46 assisted), Wheeler (43 – 15/28),
Stephanie O'Donnell (37 - 8/29),
Logan Whitaker (28 – 4/24) and Berger (21 – 3/18).
Â
ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR SELFRIDGE
Selfridge recorded her third straight, and eighth overall, double-double in the win against Kutztown courtesy of 12 kills and 14 digs. Over SRU's last three matches, Selfridge is averaging 11.7 kills on a .192 attack percentage as well as 15.3 digs per match.
Â
Just a freshman, Selfridge has started 23 of 24 matches played this season. She leads SRU in kills with 224. Selfridge is now just 13 kills away moving into a tie with Kristy Lake (2011) for the 10th most kills by an SRU freshmen all-time. Â
Â
LACHENDRO STILL CHARTING WITH THE BEST
Following a 20-dig effort against Kutztown, Lachendro begins the week still ranked fourth in the nation for total digs with 508 and 19th in digs per set at 5.52.
Â
BOUNCE-BACK MATCH
After recording just two kills and four blocks over a six-match stretch between Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, Berger came alive with eight kills (.304) and five blocks against Kutztown. She has 56 kills and 21 blocks on the year.
Â
ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK
Wheeler ranks second for The Rock in kills 164 while Koeller continues to climb SRU's kills leaderboard with 93 through just 13 matches played.
Â
SRU'S SETTER DUO
Fellers and Gullickson continue to serve as The Rock's primary setters entering the final stage of the season. Fellers has 164 assists (2.25 per set) while Gullickson has 120 (3.75).
