NEW ORLEANS – The Slippery Rock University indoor track and field teams landed 11 athletes on the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Atlantic Region team that was announced Monday. The Rock's selections were headlined by
Jason Goodman with a top performance in the region and
Kacey Raible, who made the team in two different events.
Â
In order to be named to the All-Region team, athletes must record one of the five best performances among all athletes in the region in an individual event or be a member of one of the three fastest relay teams throughout the indoor season. The Atlantic Region includes all schools in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Â
Raible headlines a list of four Slippery Rock women to be named to the All-Region team after she posted the third fastest 800-meter (2:16.14) and mile (5:00.98) times in the region this winter.
Â
The other three All-Region selections for The Rock women recorded NCAA provisional marks in the jumps.
Maddy Marshall earned the honor with the second best mark in the pole vault (3.88 meters),
Cecily Greggs recorded the second best mark in the high jump (1.68 meters) and
Reagan Hess posted the fourth best mark in the long jump (5.78 meters) this winter.
Three of the four SRU women honored are now multiple All-Region selections for indoor track and field. Marshall capped a career sweep by earning her fourth straight indoor All-Region selection in the pole vault. Hess has been All-Region in the long jump in each of the last three indoor seasons and was also an All-Region honoree in the 60-meter dash in 2018. Raible earned her first career indoor All-Region nod last winter as a member of the distance medley relay team.
Â
On the men's side, Slippery Rock is represented by seven athletes in four events. Goodman headlines that list after being the only Rock athlete, male or female, to record the best mark in any event in the region this winter thanks to his winning score in the heptathlon at the PSAC meet last weekend (4,872 points).
Â
Goodman is joined on the All-Region team by fellow multi-event specialists
Dylan Colcombe and
Ryan McQuown as SRU took three of the five spots in the heptathlon. Colcombe had the second best mark in the region this winter (4,786 points) and McQuown had the fifth best score (4,739 points). All three of those scores were NCAA provisional qualifiers.
Â
David Duffey and
Dan Hyatt were both named to the All-Region team in the pole vault after tying for the fifth best mark in the region at 4.57 meters.
Â
John Marenkovic clocked the fourth fastest time in the region in the 3,000-meter run and
John Eakin recorded the fifth best mark in the shot put (15.74 meters) to cap the All-Region selections.
Â
Six of the honorees on the men's side picked up their first career indoor All-Region honor, while Colcombe was honored for the fourth time in his career. He previously was named to the All-Region team in the heptathlon in 2017 and 2018 and in the pole vault in 2019.
Â
Slippery Rock closed the team portion of the indoor season last weekend with The Rock women winning their sixth PSAC indoor title and the SRU men placing third at the league championships, marking their ninth straight year in the top three at the PSAC indoor meet.
