SEMIFINAL RESULTS (OCT. 2-4)
- Abby McKay (FH) def. Hossam Aly (MSOC
This matchup received the highest total of votes out of all six first and second round matches with 463 total votes coming in. McKay, who prepared creamy Tuscan chicken in zucchini noodles with bacon and brown sugar Brussels sprouts, rallied late over the weekend to win the challenge with 54.2 percent of the vote to Aly’s 45.8 percent of the vote for his honey teriyaki glazed salmon with wild mushroom risotto and sauteed asparagus.
- Gabby Huck (VB) def. Noah Hastings (STAFF)
In the closest matchup to date, Huck and her cheesecake bites with homemade strawberry and raspberry jam toppings narrowly edged Hastings and his hickory smoked beef brisket with cheesy potatoes and sauteed zucchini. The final margin of victory was just 10 total votes as Huck secured 52.2 percent of the 226 votes.
FIRST ROUND RESULTS (SEPT. 25-27)
- Hossam Aly (MSOC) def. Madison Thierry (WSOC)
Aly’s turkey bacon wrapped meatloaf and mashed potatoes took down Thierry’s seasoned avocado toast in the closest of the four opening round matchups. Aly earned 59.5 percent of the 158 total votes cast to advance to the second round.
- Abby McKay (FH) def. Hayley Pimentel (LAX)
McKay won the first round matchup by a comfortable margin after 207 total votes were cast in this showdown. Her breaded chicken cutlets and a butternut squash risotto topped Pimentel’s breakfast of a signature iced coffee blend with apples and peanut butter.
- Gabby Huck (VB) def. Revelinio Tholel (MBB)
After 137 total votes in this matchup, Huck emerged with a comfortable win after her homemade pumpkin spice monkey bread took down Tholel’s late night cereal snack with almond milk.
- Noah Hastings (Staff) def. Gabby Stewart (SB)
Hastings, representing the SRU athletics staff, earned the majority of 108 total votes cast in this matchup with his smoked Peking duck recipe topping Stewart’s mixed berry protein shake.
ABOUT FUN FRIDAY
With no sports being played this semester at Slippery Rock, we wanted to give teams a chance to have a little fun and show some competitive spirit, so we asked teams to sign up to participate in a number of challenges that will take place on Fridays throughout the fall. Points will be awarded in each of four challenges, eventually leading to a “Fun Friday” fall champion in late November.
Challenge #1: “Chef Challenge”
- Teams are awarded 1,000 points for entering and 1,000 additional points for each round they advance through a bracket, with 4,000 total points being awarded to the winner.
Challenge #2: “Trivia”
- Representatives from each team will be presented with 16 trivia questions, each with a different point value between 100 and 400 points. Points will be awarded for all correct responses.
Challenge #3: “Heads Up”
- Representatives from each team will play the cell phone game “Heads Up” for a total of two minutes. Each correct guess during that time will be awarded 250 points.
Challenge #4: “Who Knows Their Coach Best”
- Three representatives from each team will attempt to guess how their head coaches answered 10 different questions. Teams will be awarded 400 points for each answer that matches the answers given by their head coach.
