All-PSAC Announcement
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse players
ShyAnne Toomer,
Danie Porath and
Rachel Shaw were named to All-Conference honors when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its annual award winners Thursday.
Â
All three Rock selections to the All-PSAC team were named to third team honors. Porath and Shaw are both repeat honorees, while Toomer picks up her first career All-Conference recognition. Porath previously earned first team honors as a defender in 2017 and Shaw was a second team honoree last spring.
Â
A junior midfielder from Carnegie, Pennsylvania, Toomer led Slippery Rock in scoring this spring with 35 points on 25 goals and 10 assists. She also led the team, and the entire PSAC, with 40 caused turnovers for an average of 2.67 caused turnovers per game. That figure ranked her seventh among all players in the nation. Toomer also ranked second on the team in draw controls with 44, scored a team-high 11 free position goals and ranked second among all field players with 49 ground balls. Through three seasons at SRU, Toomer has tallied 106 points (13th in program history), 40 assists (6th in program history), 75 caused turnovers (8th in program history) and 107 ground balls (13th in program history).
Â
A senior defender from Hartland, Michigan, Porath finished her career this spring ranked second all-time in program history in caused turnovers with 92. She racked up a career-high 39 caused turnovers this year, when her 2.44 caused turnovers per game ranked fourth in the entire PSAC and 18th among all players in the nation. She also finished her career ranked 10th in ground balls with 119 after recording 40 this season. In addition to her defensive numbers, Porath tallied three goals and grabbed 10 draw controls in 2019.
Â
A sophomore defender from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Shaw earns her second straight All-PSAC honor after ranking first among all SRU players with 54 ground balls and ranking third with 36 caused turnovers this spring. Her 2.40 caused turnovers per game ranked seventh in the PSAC and 21st in the nation, while her 3.6 ground balls per game ranked 29th among all players in the country. Through just two seasons, Shaw has racked up 71 caused turnovers (10th in program history) and 108 ground balls (12th in program history). She is on pace to shatter both of those career records with two more years of eligibility remaining.
Toomer, Porath and Shaw combined for a total of 115 caused turnovers and helped Slippery Rock to rank third in the nation as a team in caused turnovers at 14.44 per game and seventh in the nation in ground balls at 26.2 per game.
Â
The three All-PSAC selections marks the third straight year Slippery Rock has had at least three players named to the All-Conference team and the sixth straight year SRU has has multiple All-PSAC honorees.
Â
Slippery Rock finished the 2019 season with a 7-9 overall record with seven of those losses coming to teams that were nationally ranked at some point during the season, including three that were ranked in the top 10. The Rock posted a 7-1 record at home after closing the year on a 5-0 run in home games.
