Rock to finish road trip Saturday vs. Belmont Abbey

The Slippery Rock field hockey team will continue its season on the road 2 p.m. Saturday against Belmont Abbey in Richmond, Virginia.


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will continue its season on the road 2 p.m. Saturday against Belmont Abbey College in Richmond, Virginia on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This is the first matchup between The Rock and the Crusaders, both teams have started off the season undefeated.

SLIPPERY ROCK NOTES
• Slippery Rock is now 2-0 to start a season for the 10th time in school history. A win against Belmont Abbey would mark the fifth 3-0 start in school history.

• Just two games into her sophomore season, Kayla Ulrich already ranks 13th in program history in career points with 30. In the first two games of the season she recorded six points on two goals and two assists.

• The Rock's 13 goals last weekend in wins against American International and Saint Thomas Aquinas are tied with the 2001 team for most goals scored in the first two games of a season in program history.

• Slippery Rock is one of just three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams to exit the opening weekend of the season with multiple wins along with Millersville and Bloomsburg.

• Liz Wolfe and Hannah Downing rank second and fifth in the PSAC in consecutive starts. Wolfe has started The Rock's last 45 games while Downing has made 41 consecutive starts. Bloomsburg's Tali Wehner leads the PSAC with 54 straight starts.

• The freshmen duo of Jessie Trube and Lauren Marks began their collegiate careers in fine fashion last weekend. Trube scored a team-best three goals while Marks added two goals and two assists.  

• If she were to score a goal against Belmont Abbey, Trube would become just the second freshman in Rock history with goals in three straight games. Ulrich accomplished the feat last year as well.

• Rounding out The Rock's goal scorers last weekend were Sophomores Courtney Page and Abbey McKay with one goal apiece.

• Rock goalies sophomore Maddie Murphy (2-0-0) and freshman Hannah Nurse split time in SRU's opening two games. Murphy started both contests, making four saves (.800) and recording a 0.79 goals against average. Nurse came off the bench to stop four shots (1.000) and tally a perfect 0.00 GAA.

BELMONT ABBEY NOTES
• Junior Kayley Williams scored two goals to lead the Crusaders to a 3-2 season-opening win over Newberry College on Aug. 30. Senior Nicole Wong added Belmont Abbey's other score.

• Williams and freshman Camrynn Aiello had three shots each in the victory over Newberry.

• Williams scored 10 goals last season leading the team in shot percentage and holds the all-time Belmont Abbey record for goals scored in a single-season.

• Junior goalkeeper Paige Hinds stopped eight shots while allowing both Newberry goals on Aug. 30.

• This is the second season Belmont Abbey has started off with a win, last year they went 4-0 before falling to Queens.
