SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team got a school record effort from Emily Horstman in the 100-meter dash to headline the team's performances on day two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Horstman shattered the SRU record in the 100-meter dash on the way to posting the fastest prelim time on Friday with her mark of 11.86 seconds, made even more impressive in that her heat had the least amount of wind aiding the runners of the four prelim heats. Her mark is an NCAA provisional time and tops the former SRU record of 11.94 seconds that was set by Jasmine Bailey in 2017. Horstman will be the top seed in the 100-meter final Saturday, where she will be joined by teammate Megan Stephenson, who posted the sixth-best prelim mark of 12.01 seconds.

Horstman also qualified for the 200-meter finals with the seventh-best time of 25.20 seconds and ran a leg of the second-best 4x100-meter relay. She joined with Stephenson, Aerial Dukes and Amanda Oliver for a time of 47.05 seconds

In total, Slippery Rock qualified six entries for championship finals that will take place Saturday. Vanessa Shedlock posted the fifth-best 400-meter dash time of 57.21 seconds and Sophie Mazza ran the sixth-best 100-meter hurdles time of 14.76 seconds to round out those qualifiers.

In addition to those runners that hit qualifying marks in the prelim rounds Friday, Slippery Rock picked up 10 points from four individuals on the second day of the meet.

Caitlyn Janeda earned three points with a sixth place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:15.60 and Juliet Ryan scored two points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a seventh place finish in 11:52.43 to cap the scorers in the only two track finals that took place Friday.

The Rock got their other five points Friday in the heptathlon, where Asia Broaddus and Kaelyn Keane were sixth and seventh. Broaddus finished the seven-event competition with 3,798 points, while Keane followed close behind with 3,776 points.

Eight-time defending champion Shippensburg leads the team standings with 59 points, nine points ahead of Millersville in second with 50 points. West Chester sits third with 35 points, followed by California with 28.5 points and Bloomsburg and Edinboro rounding out the top five with 28 points each. SRU sits 10th heading to the final day with 12 points.

The final day of competition is scheduled to begin Saturday with field events at 11 a.m. and track events at 12:30 p.m. A live video broadcast will be available beginning at 12:15 p.m.
