Rock women hit 17 PSAC marks at Ashland

Slippery Rock recorded 17 PSAC marks, two NCAA provisional marks and had nine top five finishes at the Ashland Alumni Open.

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team recorded 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, two NCAA provisional marks and nine top five finishes at the Ashland Alumni Open Saturday at Ashland University.
 
Both NCAA marks came in the pole vault, where Courtney McQuaide placed fourth with a clearance of 3.80 meters and Maddy Marshall was fifth at 3.70 meters. Maria Darling also hit the PSAC standard to place 10th at 3.40 meters.
 
The other other PSAC marks in the field events came from the throwers, where four athletes hit the standard in the hammer and two in the shot put.
 
Anna Frengel was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 12.92 meters, followed by Kelci Yale in 15th with a throw of 12.28 meters. Yale led the way in the hammer with a 14th place finish and a mark of 45.72 meters. Frengel was 18th at 43.19 meters, followed by Abby Way in 22nd at 42.32 meters and Kati Palski in 24th at 41.11 meters.
 
SRU picked up three runner-up finishes on the track, headlined by the 4x100-meter relay team of Megan Stephenson, Emily Horstman, Amanda Oliver and Reagan Hess with a second place finish in 47.57 seconds. Horstman was also second in the 100-meter dash in 12.48 seconds, while Oliver followed in fourth in 12.60 seconds.
 
Caitlyn Janeda and Madison Przicina went 2-3 in the 800-meter run with Janeda placing second in 2:17.40 and Przicina following in 2:18.85.
 
Juliet Ryan qualified for the PSAC meet in the 1,500-meter run with a 19th place finish in 4:56.48 and Courtney Group earned a spot in the conference meet in the 5,000-meter run with a third place finish in 18:29.56.
 
The final PSAC performances of the day came in the 400-meter hurdles, where Katie Teed placed fifth in 1:06.07 and Hali Olson finished eighth in 1:07.78.
 
This weekend marked the final tune-up before the PSAC Championships, which will take place at Slippery Rock Thursday through Saturday next week.
